Santana's Gold and Aaron Smith
Aaron felt the pressure already. His ride on the colt which was assigned to him fully won his first ever race for the season. He was hoping to do the same for the chestnut mare. She was bought last year and at the end of her second season she placed third. She was maturing well and going back to Leo's office as he wanted to see him. Well done the recent win Aaron, I told you are good rider. Now you have ridden this filly before and since you done a great job, she is your assigned horse. Hopefully she would do better this season since this would be her premant home. Aaron nodded as he understood. So what do you want me to do for preparation for the race sir? Leo got the schedule up and looked at him it's a full workout as you did with Special Edition. Only this time keep her in mid pack position for six furlongs, creeping up to the front. Then the final two furlongs let her run, so we can see the flat work of her speed. Aaron nodded and then left the office and went to the three year old barn, where the chestnut filly was waiting for him and even whinnied to great him.
Nice too see you to sweetheart he kissed her nose, and seeing she was already tacked up. She is good to go. Just call me when you are done, Aaron nodded and took to the track. He jumped on her back since, there was no one to give him a hand this time, he patted her neck. Come on then girl lets get to work the maiden she was entered in was really big, Aaron didn't know the filly would cope but she have been this type of field before. It was disastrous last time as she wasn't prepared this time was going to be different though. So far the entries were eleven showing how competitive the maiden races were getting lately. Two of our horses were in the race along side of Santana. Pushing the heavy competition away, it was time to get prepared and do the job at in first.
Trotting up to the gates as they were ready. The chestnut filly waited for the loaders to place her in the gate. She snorted, shaking her head a little as she waited for the gates to open. Then they opened and the filly broke a little slow, and settled into sixth like position. Aaron knew the gate breaking was sluggish today, but her stride was comfortable and the the speed was reasonable. Keeping the pace for six furlong, and Aaron pushed her a little more come on girl a little faster. Sana responded and started to creep forward, just like she was suppose to. Her speed went a little faster, and she kept in the preceder position, she settled into this position until the 9 furlong mark, where the strong filly would be making her move.
Right girl, go! Aaron yelled at the filly as the final two furlongs came around the corner. The chestnut filly responded and broke fast and cleanly more. The dirt was being kicked angrily behind her and hoping to hit the horses in the face. The speed was amazing, and Aaron pushed the filly more and Sana was happily obliged. Finally she crossed the line and Aaron pulled her up good girl Sana, you did girl he smiled and stroked her neck, and then trotted to the entrance. Dismounted and giving the filly to the groom, he went back to the jockey room, as he talked with his friends and what they expect from the race ahead.
