[Alluring Assault] & Nick Landing - Preping for the Jan. Turf Stakes
Nick closed his eyes as he felt the smooth rocking motion of the FS Waylay Attack daughters canter. Her muscles rippled with warmth and power. Their first race of their GHF season was at hand. It was made up of four other horses..Allure being the oldest and highest grade. Pure advantage, age, wisdom and experience...but it didn't grantee a win.
They would be running against the BC Juvy winner Wild Kiss, a win to be noted for sure. Allure herself was a BC contender and so would be used to running against that kind of horse, but she also had youth on their side.
Nick opened his eyes and smiled, they would be running against good horses and they would prepare. Nick would take this closer and run her like he would come race day. Thunderstrike would have the lead most likely the whole race with Prince Arthur and Imitation Black in the middle and Wild Kiss and Alluring Assault trailing. Nick liked the fact that he'd be able to keep a close eye running alongside Wild Kiss. She may have bested her other two year olds last year, but she had yet to run against a seasoned racer like Allure...needless to say...caution would be used...
Besides...there was that whole Stride of Perfection vs. Intrepid Racing rivalry that had to be upheld...
They would not be caught off guard come race day. Nick would make sure that Allure made a solid break and would take her to run on the outside of Wild Kiss...it wouldn't do well to get boxed in on the inside...even if they were running in the back. It would make a big difference when they made their bid in the final two furlongs. Sure there was more ground to cover the further you were away from the rail, but Allure was used to running much longer distances as blistering paces...this race shouldn't prove to be out of Allure's capabilities.
He tapped Allure as he took her like he would on the back stretch. Her eyes gleamed with the fever of running as she cruised over the turf like a steam ship over the water. They turned the bend and entered the final stretch as they ran along the middle/outside.
The end was near...Allure locked her eyes on the finish as she raised her head slightly in eagerness....the while gallop Nick had been feeding her more and more of her head and now...he smiled as he let go and gave the mare her full head. Like a rocket she was off, the pace blistering as Nick had to gasp for air at the sudden acceleration...it surprised him every time.
Like a seasoned pro, she sailed past her finish, the imaginary victory real in her mind as Nick brought her in... She trotted, neck arched regally. Her eyes hungry for more, but Nick held her in check.
Come race day...they would run and take their stand. It was either take a stand now or run in fear....and they were not about to live in fear...
The great unknown lay ahead in this race, but one thing was for certain..they woulld face the day with all reality and fierceness...come what may.
