RIDDEN BY MICHAEL TURNER && BECKY ANDREWS

Van Guard's first race was coming up quick and it was time to prepare him for it. He was huge colt, almost 17.2hh. Although he never really dominates or shows himself as a leader, he is definitely fiery. He's constantly on the move; never calm or soft. He's got striking looks but tends to stay low and not get noticed, or atleast not until he's running against another horse down the stretch. Being by Native Flame and out of Thanks For The Memories, it's no secret where he got his personality from. Vans had visible potential being related to horses like Fire Dancer and The Devil's Touch.
Lithe Lullaby still needed some work and time to mature before she was entered into anything. It would be good to have her work with another horse who didn't need to mature as much and was going to start racing. It would also give the team a feel for her potential. Even though Luna's lines were unknown, that didn't make Hailey think any less of her, considering Terror Smile's lines were also unknown. Luna was a very sweet and quiet filly; the exact opposite of Vans so this work was going to turn out to be interesting.
Since Luna needed a very subtle rider, Becky would be riding her while Mike, an aggressive rider would be riding Vans. The plan for the work was to just take it slow and keep them at the same pace, neck and neck until the quarter pole, where they would ask the two horses to pick it up. Hailey was very excited for the workout, especially since she had taken a shine to Vans the moment he stepped out of the trailer. She had sent him straight to the Breeder's Cup Yearling Show seeing his potential right from the start. He ended up placing fourth against Akumabuelle who won the show. That was a pretty good place considering the other seven horses in it were very well lined.
