Ford Model T might have been only a horse, and not a classic car, but that didn't mean he didn't run like one. Indeed Ford had started off his season with a win, and Moses Lancaster was all to excited to keep the ball rolling. Now that Ford's major ADHD was balanced with maturity, the sprinter was going to do better he was sure. One of these tests was just how he focused in the bigger pool, of the G4's. The competition was now at a new level, but Moses was sure Ford could take it. He'd run and run and not let anything get in his way.
"Just like I told you brother, watch out for Erin in this one. You know how she makes Royal Assassin into a running hazard." Skylark warned him. They knew very well Royal Assassin would move at some of the competition, so the flaxen chestnut would have to be careful. "If he breaks fast enough, keep him wide and away from that pair. Keep him up front if you can, but don't be afraid to hold him back at second or third. He's a little nutty, but not insane he'll work with you."
Moses nodded, having nothing really to add. The race was to be eight furlongs on the turf. Despite it being February, the air was somewhat warm, and the grass was green. It looked like perfect footing out there, and both he and the stallion he rode were eager to try it out. "Let's go, Fordy-Ford." Moses gave Ford the slightest cue with his legs, and off Ford went, at a contented canter to the gates, before Moses slowed him to a walk and they got him in. He pranced and fidgeted in the gates a bit, but in a moment the gates were open again.
Eight furlongs. Time to go. Ford broke fast, and the creamy-colored chestnut was gone. Moses kept him a little on the outside. Not so far he'd lose his advantage of breaking fast, but not so close he'd get caught up in the explosion of horses moving in on the inside. Moses would make sure Ford hard room to operate. The stallion tugged on the reins and took long strides, trying to get out from under Moses and just run for his life, but Moses held on. He wasn't the most amazing jockey out there, but he wasn't a fool, either, and didn't plan on wiping out.
They rounded the curve at six furlongs, and immediately out of it, Moses gave Ford Model T some of his wish. With the stick and a little loosening of the reins, he let 'Mr. ADHD' fly. And fly he did. It was almost as though he hovered over the turf, hooves barely touching it before they were up again in another stride. This was what Ford was meant to do. Run, run, run and run some more.
They crossed the eight furlong marker at a fantastic pace, and with a little bit of prancing and dancing decelerated and came back to see Skylark, who was hastily making notes. "This race will be a challenge for the both of you. Your raw time is good, but it the monthly stakes are a slightly different cut than what he's done so far. Be prepared for everything, and don't bother with breaks - just gas, just go."
