Hello and welcome to the newsletter which keeps you, the reader, up to date with the progress of the GHF's Next Top Racehorse Series. Due to personal circumstances, this is late going up and two legs have already ran, so it's time to catch up!
As ever, the series began in January Week 1, with a show for horses expected to run over six furlongs on the turf. The show drew four entrants from Stride Of Perfection Stables, Oak Hill Farm, Intrepid Racing and Silver Stride Stables. The calibre was high and in the end it was Athena's Desires, from Stride Of Perfection Stables that stole the show.
Athena's Desires is an amazingly bred filly, sired by the Hall Of Fame inducted sprinting champion, Pegasus Wings and out of Hall Of Fame inducted Deadly Desires. Her family needs no introduction, and there is no doubt she will be a fan favourite if she lives up to that potential. The black filly reminded crowds of her dam's cold temperament with her behaviour in the show and will no doubt continue to draw attention throughout the year.
The series continued in the first week of February, this time running over six furlongs on the Dirt. The field consisted of three entrants this time, drawing entrants from Bowen Acres, Stride Of Perfection Stables and Silver Stride Stables. In a close show, Siren Call of Silver Stride Stables was able to claim victory.
Siren Call certainly has the potential to draw more attention this year, being out of the broodmare Blood Of The Angel who became known last season when her twins, Tears Of Blood and Tears Of An Angel stormed to success on the sprinting tracks and have continued to perform strongly so far this season. Her sire, Shiver Me Timbers, was also well known as a sprinter although his offspring are outwardly less impressive. Still, there is a lot of potential and the filly's quiet temperament might yet be hiding something more.
Given the results, Siren Call has now charged into the lead of the GHF's Next Top Racehorse series.
Things are already hot in this contest, and I know I personally cannot wait to see how the season progresses.
