Silver Serendipity had ran well in her start the week before and took the third place in the Magic Millions Fillies Dirt Sprint. Though she placed behind two exceptional fillies, she was bouncing back this week to attempt to win the race that she was in. This week she would be up against Silver Stride Stables very own colt, Mighty News, also known as Nebula, or Nebby to most. The colt had placed second behind our two year old, Tears No More in his previous start. Now Trouble would be resting and Demi would be running in the April Juvenile Dirt Faceoff. Today, she would be working five furlongs on the dirt alongside Tears of an Angel.
Tears of an Angel would be making her first start after taking a break due to a minor injury sustained in a workout. She was entered in the Silk Road Stakes against some very tough competition. Though she was a very strong filly, the competition we were up against seemed likely to flatten her. This year, she had taken a win and three places, and it was time to get her started again. She was fully recovered and fitter than ever, and was definitely ready to race come race day tomorrow.
The break had done Lucy well. She was now back and fighting and nothing was going to stop her. Starting in Gate One in the Silk Road Stakes was Blue Me Away. The name certainly blew me away when I looked at the entrants, but I thought Lucy would be worth a shot against Blue. The colt had taken two wins and three places this year and was in tremendous form. He was main rivals with Ode To Glory and had dead heated with him twice, once for a first, once for a second.
Next entrant was the Stride Of Perfection entry, Ode To Glory - the rival himself that looked simply amazing this year. He had taken two wins, four places and a show this year and it appeared that everyone at SOPS had been working exceedingly hard to get him to where he is now. He ran as a mid-packer, which meant he'd be at the back of the pack in the race tomorrow. Krystal Yhate had been working the colt hard to get him to full fitness.
Bella Luna was next. This filly had rocked the turf this year, and she seemed simply beautiful, fit, and ready to roll. It seemed almost certain that she'd do very well in this race today and quite possibly win. If not win, a close second at least. Lucy wasn't expected to do well over the eight furlong race, but she had won in the Follow The Hoofprints Turf Mile last year so hopefully the distance wouldn't affect her. She was a preceder, so would be alongside Lucy during the race.
Demi was up against Mighty News. The colt had taken a win, two places, a show and a fourth. It seemed likely that he could take the win in the race against Demi today but even though that is what the results looked likely to be, the filly would be back later in the year to try again. Nebby was a preceder which meant Demi would take the lead. Today, the horses were only breezing through the stretch to prepare and make sure they didn't get worn out for the race tomorrow.
Beth was aware that Demi raced in Week Four, so she gave her a break and didn't work her before her last race to make sure she was ready for this race. It seemed that she was rested enough for this race though it could have a negative impact. Both fillies stepped onto the track side by side. The grey smaller than the chestnut. Beth sat aboard of Demi, whereas Ivana, Lucy's regular jockey rode her.
Demi is a very versatile filly. She is almost a one of a kind filly, full of scope and excitableness. She is rather executive, faithful, and a decisive individual. She's a rather curious yet intelligent filly, so you must make sure that her stable door is fastened and that the kick bolt is on, or you will most likely see a horse running down the highway in the morning! She puts tremendous amounts of energy into doing any task which she sees as important to fulfilling a goal and is a very giving individual. Demi gets a lot of personal satisfaction from the happiness of others around her.
Lucy is a very willing individual. She has a heart of solid gold and wouldn't harm a fly, unlike her aggressive mother. She is a blunt but very straight forward risk-taker, who will plunge into any task her jockey asks her. Lucy is the kind of horse that will try anything new, she will respond to everything and anything with quick, effective decisions. Her intelligence gets her quite far on the track. She is very responsive and quick-witted - in most cases she can't take no for an answer. She has a habit of rubbing her bridle on any near by post, which can often mean spending countless dollars on a new bridle.
Both girls discussed their plans for the workout. Ivana started to talk first. "So - you break first and we'll breeze. I'll bring Lucy alongside to get her used to that. Only going to breeze it today, we don't want to go mental." From behind them, they heard a voice. It was Jacey on board of Bella. "Hi guys, mind if I join you for a quick breeze?" Beth grinned and looked at Ivana. Ivana nodded and smiled. Beth turned to Jacey and took a deep breath. "Sure, we'd love to have you join us for a breeze."
Bella can be a tricky filly at times, mainly because she can be somewhat unpredictable. Although calm and relaxed most of the time she has this habit of becoming rather aggressive at times, a trait which both of her parents carried. As such, it is wise to stay on her good side and if you get on her bad side you should probably watch your back, or try to keep away from her, as she has this fondness for biting, and biting hard. If she draws blood it is really all the more fun.
Jacey smiled. "Great, how far are we going?" She said to Beth. Beth, uncertain herself looked at Ivana. "We're going to go a mile today. Preparation for both fillies." Jacey smiled. Demi pricked her ears and looked around before shaking her head and squealing. She pranced on the turf and whinnied loudly. "Oi," She shouted. "Pack it in," She said, getting annoyed with the two year old speed machine.
"Shall we go before she gets anymore wound up?" Jacey said. Ivana nodded. "Sure... shamone!" She said. All three girls laughed loudly. Bella started off. Jacey pushed her into a trot and she rocked into a canter - followed by Demi then slowly followed by Lucy. All three fillies lined up one behind the other, and as they got to the mile post, they let them run.
Bella took the lead, plugging along the turf, ears pricked. She hadn't raced for sometime but it seemed likely that she would very soon. Jacey let her go and her long stride powered over the surface energetically. Demi in behind was pulling on the bit but Beth didn't get her. She just held her back but kept her going. Lucy was hot on her heels and very close up behind her. She came up alongside Demi and they plugged on in unison, side by side.
Rounding the far turn, Jacey began to push Bella on a bit. Demi and Lucy were beginning to close and as they came into the top of the stretch. All three were in unison in the home stretch. Side by side the jockeys kept the horses level and as they went under the wire they were still in unison. The workout had gone very well and all horses were ready for their next start.
