Black Swan & Baylee Shepherd
Workout for May Turf Maiden
The racing week was getting more competive. Other stables which have been around longer and have had more experinced horses than us, was working they horses hard. Leo was smart and checked out the competion. Black Swan was going to be against our other horse and a bay colt named Mainspring. He was starting his career as well, and also the only colt in the field. Leo watched him carefully and nodded, before headed back to the yard where the chestnut filly was being saddled up. Her jockey was Baylee Shepherd, a young boy which had a talent with horses and brought them safely back from a race and workout.[/color]
Now Baylee. The field is small which is good, she loves to be in the front of the field, so allow her take the lead, but hold her back. We have no idea how this colt would react, but he looks like a front runner too. So allow him get the upper hand. Our other horse Rose would be running as well, but she is more of stalker he ordered the boy.
Baylee mounted up on his ride and nodded, as he was being led to the track. Slowly he warmed up the filly allowing her muscles were loosen up so avoid anymore injuries which could be prevented. The warm up would be twenty minutes long and he pulled her into a trot. Swan responded and trotted towards the gates. This where her problems tend to start, but today she was good as gold, and went into the gates without a hassle.
The gates sprung opened and Swan broke quickly and clean. She headed straight to the front like she would in the race, she stayed in the middle as she was avoiding in a potential boxed in. Baylee kept her calm and kept a tight hold, so she wouldn't burn out to soon. The quarter of mile was coming around the bend, and Baylee allowed her to break, and Swan responded and she spread her limbs to they full power, as she sped more using the power she kept in reserved, and giving it all as the race was happening and she wanted to win. She finished the workout and Baylee slowed her down, and brought to a canter, as he knew she wanted to win this, and the race was going to virsous as she wouldn't give up without a good fight.
