AUGUST WORKOUT
[/size]August was finally here. It seemed that this year had gone so fast and races had to be taken lightly now. Lawrence had needed to put Ru in some more races but, he did not want to race the colt too hard because of his past injuries. The colt was much older now but, old injuries could take toll in some horses. Walking the black stallion onto the track the two had met their competitors Terri Lane who rode Ruler's biological sister Passion Heart. "You know we need to keep these two apart don't want Ruler to put Passion to shame Terr." The jockey said in a joking manner.
Terri could only laugh as the filly rose her head. "Why don't we leave that to the judge's Lawrence. Passion Heart is right on Ru's ankles. Care to join me in the workout?" She said as she moved her horse forward. Passion Heart was a tempered filly she was nasty unlike her older brother who was gentle. Ruler Secret was a sprinter in some ways as was Passion. The two started off easy but as they were both front runners the two horses were at each others throats side by side. They came to the first few furlongs and the two jockey's were beginning to think racing two siblings together was a terrible idea but, it could work out in the end.
Ruler had pushed Passion a little faster then a normal pace and on the grassy field the two shifted together. Passion would not have it. She began to fly with a whinny in her throat. The two hit the back stretch and Passion Heart picked up the pace. She knew this track well and would not allow her brother to push her aside. The filly earned this race and she needed this workout. As did Ruler's Secret. Lawrence saw Terri Lane push forward and Ru just held his steady pace along the end of the stretch.
Passion ran close to the railing at times. She wanted this race but, there weren't many other horses in the field except she would only be just with her and Ruler's Secret. As the last two furlongs came about Lawrence gave him the last whiff and the colt took off with his last and final speed. Ruler past Passion by an inch to the wire and Lawrence slowed the colt with ease and Passion soon followed. The jockey's laughed at each other and without a word would wait til after race day to see the results. Both horses were ready and pumped up.
