The start of the day was tough with the winds picking up just slightly on the track. Terri Lane sat on Midnight Sun's back with hesitant eyes with the weather. "You ready girl?.." Terri said grooming the filly as she fixed herself in the saddle. Midnight Sun had a skinny form for a filly but, she was full of muscle in the shoulders which did great for her on the tracks. It had appeared that the Butter Cup Sprint was the last leg of the Triple Tiara and Night had won a leg of it in the Shining Stakes against Tears of An Angel.
Terri grew proud of the black filly below her as her last win was a miracle and highly unexpected. With the Butter Cup Sprint she was up against two entrants with just as high ratings as her previous competitors. This race would have sprinters such as Innocent Passion taking the first gate. This bay filly had plenty of potential with the winnings of such races as the Rose Mile Cup, Star Festival, Unicorn horn Juvenile Turf Sprint, and The Princess Cup. She was running for Stride of Perfection Stables who was a well maintained stables at best.
Up next was Cross My Heart, a very powerful and dangerous filly on the track. She was an orphaned filly taken in by Witch Creek Stables and proved her dominance on the tracks. She was a legend herself with the winnings of the So Sassy Sprint, The Girl's Festival, The Debutante Stakes, the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint, and The Azalea Cup Fillies. She was a well known filly and at the third gate was Nature Blues, Midnight Sun.
Midnight Sun was a grade 4 filly once owned by In Stride racing until being sold over to run for Nature Blues. The black filly had a few accomplishes of her own such as The Summer Cup, Grade 5 Dirt Sprint, The Shining Stakes, Sepulcher Stakes, and the Underwood Stakes. She had some speed on her as well but, in terms Midnight would target Cross My Heart as her push towards the wire. All three horses had some power behind them and this death match would be the start.
Terri Lane wanted this win for Midnight as it would give her a second win to a Triple Tiara race or even Triple Sprinter Crown would give her the attention she claimed for. The black filly moved with determination to the start of the grassy turf below her hooves. She was a monster to look at from the side lines and was a fighter in her heart. Midnight always broke to the lead and took off from the gate with her jockey nearly falling off each time.
Her strides grew to a different pace at every turn as she pinned her ears. She was a train picking up speed to get to its destination on time. Terri Lane had not been on a filly with this much speed before even though her own Passion Heart had a few on her. Terri asked Night to move to a canter and the filly pulled on the reins from her bit and moved with a beautiful movement. This filly was asking for a challenge but, this was only a workout to see where she was at for this coming race.
The filly found her speed with the help of her rider and surged through the turf track with pounding hooves and a massive length apart. Midnight Sun was focused on one thing on the tracks and that was winning and she disliked when others passed her concentration. Taking her to the five Terri urged the filly to a slow prance after sprinting the first half of the track. The black filly was wired up and bowing her head with her improvements.
It wasn't long until Samantha showed up near the railings and smiled towards the two. "How did she do Ter?" The Co-Owner asked with curiosity. Terri moved the goggles from her eyes and over her head as she dropped off the filly's back and grabbed the filly's head to pull her off the track. "She did great I felt or saw no problems. She still thinks she's top horse out there." Terri said hoping that this race would be hers. They would only find out come race day. The other two fillies had Terri nervous.
