Gamble on Peace was back on the tracks well his owners decided to have him finish the season. The stallion had potential and after a long conversation the chestnut sprinter would be entered in the High Speed Stakes. He was ridden by jockey Chris Stevens who also rode quite a few other known horses at Nature Blue Stables. He had recently won the Gold Cup last week and was in hopes to winning this week for the senior prep races. He approached the dirt tracks with a quiet walk. This workout was needed and would be taken into carefully.
The High Speed Stakes had three entrants for 5 furlongs in on the dirt surface. In gate one was of course Gamble on Peace everyone knew his name quite well and knew his antics, Chris would need him to do better in this field and would work him to run on the outside of the rail until the end where he would need to take the inside to pick up more speed. Gate two was Lynara's Kingdom, Gambler held a few races with this mare before but, hoped to beat her in this race. She was the horse to look out for in this race. Gate three was Sweetness Unlimited by Star Thoroughbreds.
Each horse in this field was eager to win this race or would be and Gambler was the only stallion among the two. "Alright hoe bout we go til the 6 and see where we go from there?" He said to the horse but, as well to tell himself. The Stallion was the first accomplished sprinter at Nature Blues or was the first to reach G3. Gamble on Peace was an amazing animal and if it wasn't for that dreamvalley stable sale then they wouldn't have came across Gambler.
Chris took the chestnut out to a small canter to get a stretch of his muscles. Chris understood his personality more clearly each day. Gamble was a completely different horse on the tracks then he was in the stables. He was strong and focused on racing and winning on the tracks then he was biting and being cranky in the stables. Anyone could ride Gamble on Peace but it was much preferred that Chris be the passenger.
He headed out with no hesitation and this time Chris urged the stallion to stay in the middle of the track and where Gamble took forever to find his stride when he found it, it was a miracle to watch. He took off as he was told with the rising of his tail Gamble enjoyed the run. He had no mistakes in his run and when approaching the back stretch Chris started his move with his horse and Gamble on Peace started to sprint away with a determination in his heart.
They needed to pass up Lynara's Kingdom as she was the horse with the name on the tracks today. That would be their opponent on the tracks. Gambler moved towards the railing along the last turn to pick up an even faster pace to move his way to the wire with speed. This stallion had a lot to live up to. He was in his prime as a 3 year old and placed in 3rd in the breeders cup sprint. While it wasn't a win it was still in the top three placings. So the High Speed Stakes would be no issue for Gamble as he was now a 4 year old he still had a lot of months to go by.
After he passed the wire without a break in his breath he pounded the ground with pride. Chris was nervous for this race and to see how Gamble was doing. He was getting older and that met older races with more experienced horses. He would not back down from this race and would greatly come from behind where he would save his energy until the last furlong of the race where he would claim his win and wait to be in the winner's circle with a loaf of flowers on his back.
