GS SUPERCHARGED WORKOUT FOR TROPICAL RAINFOREST INVITATIONAL
The morning was cold and Chris Stevens had Ben out early to start the morning workouts. GS Super Charged had been doing pretty well this year with the Novisio Derby Win and the Gem Stakes win this month he was surely having the spotlight. He was going to be running on the turf surface at this invitational. Chris owned Ben only because of the bond the two shared and so it was Chris who made the decisions for the colt. The blanket had been removed from his back and a saddle to take its place. Chris walked Ben around for awhile so the coldness would not freeze his muscles. Ben was an active colt and like his sire before him held his head high and proud.
Chris then hopped onto the back of the large animal and shook the chill off like it was nothing. The Invitational had a lot of competitors running in it or so was rumored. So far the nominees were Frozen Motion, Infinite Warcry, and Firebird all great horses. Ben managed to hold his ground as a grade 3. But, he was a closer and liked to sneak in from behind but, Chris felt these horses would push Ben as the son to Admiral's Revenge it was highly noted. The two headed out onto the turf track and Ben grunted towards the old terrain. He always took forever to find his stride but, once he did it was a piece of cake to find his way to the finish.
Ben was marvelous to watch and the two were off with a gentle gallop. GS SuperCharged could not be cocky in this race he needed to keep calm and remained focus. Chris asked for another speed from his friend and Ben picked up the pace along the back stretch. He stayed far from the rail and as the furlongs came Ben never missed his stride to get that speed he wanted. This invitational was a surprise and Chris was happy and proud to have made it this far with an incredible animal. He made Nature Blues proud and would continue to do so. Passing the final turn Ben took off with jockey on back to find himself moving like a cheetah.
Chris hollered in excitement and fun this horse was his only distance runner and it amazed him how far this horse could run. Chris was still deciding if he wanted to take on his half sister who was only a weanling at this time. Chris got used to this attitude and when Ben was angry Chris took him out to relieve his emotions. Coming to the home stretch Chris clicked his tongue and Ben gave it his go to find his final and sneaky stride. Ben rose his head as he passed the wire with a long stop afterwards. The turf was a tricky track and could be more slippery. Ben did not like it one bit but, the courage to run he found it as he went along.
"You still amaze me." Chris said as he walked the thoroughbred off the track and checked his hooves after. He had ignored the cameras and the press to make sure that Ben would be healthy come race day. He would put up a show as always in the races but as Chris told himself never under estimate one with eagerness. This race was important and they would need the win but if not it would have been an amazing event. He took Ben back to the stables to rest for the race of the year.
