Lucy McCummins had been keeping to herself, lately. Rumors have been spreading of some possible new up-comers for the new year for her racing stock, even a possible start to a breeding program for Durango Racing Stables, GHF's newest stable.
Miss. McCummins has been holding out for her diamond in the rough colt, Quizzical, who has his first run in the December Maiden Dirt for Week 2. She's been spotted around her broodmare barn, lately. We caught up with her for an interview. Here it is:
Question 1: We've heard plenty of rumors going around about some additions coming along for Year 14. What do you have to say about it?
A: I'm looking forward to the coming year. I have a couple two year olds I'm thinking about adding to my barn. Also, a broodmare I've been looking into. I want to look into getting a breeding program going for Durango Racing. Everything is still up in the air, though.
Question 2: How does Quizzical look for next year? He's come on so late in the season. Do you think this will affect him for Year 14?
A: Oh no, not at all. He's a very strong horse and he's really impressed me so far. He still has a lot of growing up to do. I feel he will come out strong next year. I'm hoping he will compete with the best 3 year olds next year.
Question 3: Is he ready for his run in the December Maiden Dirt?
A: He is absolutely ready. I feel he has a good shot, even though he's come in so late and only has one workout. We will see how it will go, but I know he will do his best.
Final Question: Well, Miss McCummins, I'm glad we got to speak with you, today. Do you think Durango Racing will become a strong competitor for GHF?
A: We may seem small, now, but we will prosper. I'm going to keep increasing my racing stock and get some breeding horses in. It may take a while, but good things will come.
After the interview, we had gotten to talking with Lucy's groom, Herbert Wilson. From what he said, she has two 2 year olds in the works for Y14. One is a colt, the other a filly. One is a turf runner and the other runs on dirt. He wouldn't say no more.
So, I believe we will have to keep an eye out on Lucy McCummins and Durango Racing Stables. They're showing great progress for the coming future. Well, this ends our story. From the backside of Durango Racing, we're signing off.
