JAZZAWAY Jockeyed by Lawrence Kaine
The third week of January was already at bay and Terri Lane would be taking Nate out this week as he was reclaimed to Nature Blues. Passionate God is sired by Tempered Passion, a G1 stallion who had the Breeder's Cup to his name and the Autumn Cup. Nate's dam is Dark Goddess a maiden mare with a bad temper. He had not raced with Dark Justice stables while their so returning to Nature Blues would be perfect. Nate preferred the turf as the grassy plains was easier for him to run. Terri trotted him out onto the turf tracks so he could get a feel what the real thing would be like. This was also a training session to see how he would do.
Coming to join them were Lawrence Kaine who rode on the back of G3 Jazzaway. Jazz's specialty was on both surfaces like his sire Jazzman and dam Point Away. Jazzaway loved to challenge his opponents which would make this workout fun for the colt. "Hey Terri I never thought I would see that colt back in our stables." He said moving Jazz to the same movements as Nate. Terri looked over at the other jockey and shrugged her shoulders while holding onto the reins. "Yeah well Nate has some potential I want him to get a few races in with us." She said before the two colts battered at each other.
Both horses ran the same distances however one was new to the tracks. The two then started to gallop away with the order from their jockey's and Jazzaway pulled away being the front runner as he was he moved his body sideways at the start before adjusting it to be straight to gain more speed. However, Nate was also a front runner and he also sped off immediately following Jazzaway pushing him with every furlong that came ahead. Jazzaway held back just a bit coming along the back stretch, Passionate God willingly took the lead with a proud demeanor.
Jazzaway then took off again using the saved energy he had and pulled passed Nate without a glare. Jazzaway crossed the wire by a nose and held his title towards the rookie colt. Nate held out great and the races ahead would determine their work. Jazz hadn't raced in awhile and this race would be a great warm up. "Nate doesn't take stuff from anyone does he?" Lawrence said looking at Terri who took a deep breath. "I don't think he was himself today I know for sure he will do better with this race." She said patting Nate's neck for his achievement.
The black colt nipped at Nate as his reaction to the job well done. "Come on Jazz let's get you all cleaned up" Lawrence told the Jazzman son as both jockey's walked both colt's off the track to head to the groomers station before the race day.
