Beyond Perfection, Y14 Spring Cup
He hadn't quite been ready for the bigger field in his last race, but she was sure he could handle it this time; he had the experience now, and he had seen what he needed to see. Ella ran the body-brush down the bulging slopes of his mature shoulders, admiring every dip of flesh beneath his faultless jacket of taupe. He was a monster, a demon; his appeal second to none, and his fierce speed equally as impressive. He stood quietly, tapered hooves oiled with pride, mane pulled to a glistening cascade of perfection- Ella almost laughed at herself, shaking her head lightly, “You’ve got me feeling all girly, Bee,” the stallions ears flickered backwards at the sound of her voice, listening half-heartedly as she stood behind his whither. She reached loose knuckles to rub between his neck and shoulder blade, and the stallions lip would start to push forwards and wiggle from side to side as she seemed to hit the spot. A character he was!
Ella would begin to tighten his girth, completely lost in her thoughts of adore; still taken aback by his successful win at the end of January. Some suggested he rest, but he was such a prime image of fitness at the moment, Ella highly doubted he would grow tired so easily, especially with such promising competition to spur him on. He was only a Grade 5, but his lineage suggested that was only going to change as he matured- Ouch! Ella pulled her elbow into her side, having let her guard down, Bee had taken a cheeky nip at the skin of her arm whilst she fitted his saddle; “Hey!” she scorned sharply, a warning of manners. However Bee was oblivious, his ears tipped forwards proudly as he gazed at her almost-innocently, tongue lapping at his lower lip. “Idiot,” but it was spoken light-heartedly, a smile playing at her lips as she couldn’t help but appreciate the four year olds playful nature.
Stubbornly, Bee would side-step, attempting to have it over Ella in a fight of the strongest wills. Determined, the young adult would drive him forwards, tapping him with the crop and making sharp noises with her tongue; at first he was unfazed, tossing his head up and down in vicious statements of his proud gender, but eventually he would give in, and with the driving of his broad shoulders he would punch forwards at an extended trot. He was too clever for his own good, and although the dark thoroughbred was never purposefully dangerous, he certainly was a challenge. He was eager, strides pumping with determination, and even in his trot he felt like he had the power to absolutely explode. Ella would allow him the Spring Cup to prove himself, and if the stallion continued to come out on top, his future was certainly looking bright.
The morning sun was shielded by sparse clouds, hazy skies blossoming above as the large equine would break into a canter, his rhythm stable and pace steady. His nostrils would begin to expand, nose pulling into his chest as Ella faught to keep him regular, at ease. She didn’t want to tire him, only to keep his fitness levels challenge-worthy. His muscle mass was admirable now, and with his diet the stallion was growing heavy with seam-bursting maturity. He was probably too heavy to be a sprinter, however fast, he did better in his longer distance runs; where he could tactfully follow the leaders, and one by one move his way up the placings, often blocking his competition along the way.
He would tug at the bit a few times, but Ella remained strong, having cantered him for roughly four furlongs, she began to prepare him for a quick sprint. Elegantly the young jockey would stand taller in the saddle, reaching forwards to hold a segment of his upper mane, crouching over his neck. Well, she hadn’t actually asked for it yet, but Bee felt her shifting of weight and lurched forwards in a steaming burst of excitement. His ears would pin back to his scalp, primed skin shifting over brawly muscle as his limbs would stretch out with great effort before his colossal chest. His hooves thrummed beneath him, his speed accelerating more and more by the moment. He was unstoppable, reletentless, and his recent victory had been no surprise what-so-ever. He was destined for greatness, and each stride screamed of his potential. Hooves drummed beneath a brawly body, “That is the sound of victory, Bee!” Ella would state proudly, reigning the large stallion back in after two furlongs of galloping. He was going to give them a run for their money.
