The two maidens
Honorary and Lime Light
The time had finally come, the last workout before the colt and filly would make their debut on the track. The two had talent there was no doubt about that, and both could really run, Lime Light may need a little urging due to the fact that he was nothing but lazy until the last two or so furlongs of his works. Honorary, well she was a different story, she was larger than the Stallion, but she had the temperament and hot headedness of one. The two stablemates where practically opposites, but thats how they benefited each other. Honorary would be held back so she could learn to rate, and Lime Light would be pushed to go faster by her.
So, the two were loaded into the gate for their last work before their track debuts. Of course, Lime Light decided to make Honorary wait for at least a minute, she anxiously chomped on her bit and danced around a little, although with how big she was she didn’t have much room to move around at all. Meanwhile, Lime Light finally yielded to the gate and they were both in line and ready for the start.
There was a moment of silence then the gates burst open and the two began to eat up the ground. Honorary had around a neck on Lime Light, but he clung to her withers like it was his lifeline, it was funny how once you threw some competition his way he responded. The two traveled down the backstretch, Honorary tugging on the reins and Lime Light still clinging to her side. Their rugged breaths and thuds of hoof beats seemed to be the only sounds in the world.
Honorary continued to lead as the pair went into the final turn, the pace had increased and Honorary was a arrow in a bow awaiting release. The tension between the horses began to build. Lime Light received a shake on his reins and began to make his move mid way around the turn, however Honorary wouldn’t let him get a nose in front of her no matter how fast he was going.
Coming into the home stretch the two where head in head, but it wouldn’t last long, the moment the tension on Honorary’s reins loosened, the acceleration was instant, the filly extended her long stride and let Lime Light eat her dust. Lime Light wasn’t done yet, a tap on the butt was all he needed, with a huge turn of foot he battled back and never let the filly get more than a neck in front of him. The two’s brawl continued right down to the wire, Honorary by a neck, Lime Light coming in second.
The two seemed like they couldn’t be more ready, and Lime Light would get his revenge on the filly, if things went his way come race day. Honorary would remain as cocky as ever around her stable mate, for it was another victory for her.
