Taylor wanted to make sure Conquistadora, her only current racehorse, stayed on her toes. She wanted her to be well fit for her first race, which would be some time in the coming month. The young filly thrashed and bucked as Taylor rode her onto the dirt track of GHF.
Dora kicked out some more before she finally settled under saddle. The morning was a bit warmer, today. Taylor stayed perked and ready in the saddle. She was the only one who understood the bi-polar filly. They were a great pair. She had high hopes for the horse. Dora trotted eagerly around the track, keeping out of the path of other horses who were also getting their works in. She remained calm.
Taylor clucked her onto a faster gait. Dora obeyed instantly. On they went down the track. There were a few onlookers at the rail. Dora stepped up on the charm. She didn't want to be overshadowed by the other horses. She wanted all eyes to be locked on her. She started prancing perfectly. Taylor tapped the whip to her shoulder to snap her out of the princess status. The young filly gave a grunt and continued at a steady jog.
They headed to the gate. It would be a mile run, this time around. Taylor wanted to see how the filly performed at a distance she was comfortable with. She was a long distance runner. She was incredible in every way. She would most certainly leave horses in the dust.
Dora loaded perfectly, as usual. She was a pro at the starting gate. Taylor started her on the chutes even before she was started under saddle. She had no fear of them. They waited until the chute would open. Dora stormed forward when it did. She left the sound of the bell behind her as she tore into turn one. Taylor kept her back, not letting her put in her full speed. She wanted her to save it for the stretch run.
Dora stayed on at a great and steady pace. She didn't let up one bit. She was such an impressive young filly. She was in great shape. The second turn was fast approaching. Taylor kept on her, pulling the whip from the back pocket of her jeans. She ran her hands up Dora's neck, urging her on.
The filly increased her pace as they reached the stretch. All out gallop was what she gave. She didn't mind seeing horses along the outside rail coming her way. She was just focused on getting to the finish the fastest she possibly could. Taylor put the whip away and placed a pat on Dora's neck. It was another impressive run for her. Next would be a race. She was more than ready for it.
