It's almost halfway through the season and owners Kiana and Ryan as well as trainer Carter Leeson have started to finalize retirement plans and their upcoming racing string.
First on their retirement list is 6 year old stallion, Flying Solo, formerly owned by Intrepid Racing. Coming off of a 4th place finish in the BC Turf Sprint, the bay stallion starts his last season off with a respective 4th place finish in the Brilliant Finish Stakes at The Wire. His 4th place finish was not pleasing for himself, so he tied up the knot with a first place finish in the SPRING CUP GRADE THREE TURF SPRINT* here at Green Horse Fields, followed by another win in the GHF March Turf Stakes. His effort in the KING CUP* was incredible, landing him a 2nd place finish. In the Y14 STABLE FACE OFF* - Grade 3,2,1 Turf Sprint, he was up against a crowd of tough horses, and finished 5th. He is currently scheduled to compete in the Silver Cup [April Week 3]. This boy definitely deserves a retirement and live his life out in our pastures and as a stallion at stud. We wish Solo luck on his future races!
Second is 4 year old Red Herring, formerly owned by Witch Creek Stables. Red came to Firestone originally on a lease contract, but then was offered complete ownership, which we gladly took. He starts his last season off with a 3rd place finish at The Wire in the Impressionante Derby, followed by a 2nd place finish in the Unicorn Horn Dirt Classic*. Sick of not winning, he rallied up a win in the Oscariannna Stakes. Spring Fever certainly hit, because Red wasn't feeling too well, landing a 4th in the Spring Cup Grade One Dirt*. He quickly bounced back, earning a 3rd in the Sweet Stalker Memorial Stakes*, a 1st in the Sun Stakes and a 1st in the Y14 STABLE FACE OFF Grade 3,2,1 Dirt*. We are very proud of this boy and can't wait to finish the season with him in Firestone hands.
In regards to prospects, Firestone has four coming 2-year old prospects to announce.
First is Barely Smokin, a bay colt out of Barely A Moment x Dash For Cash. He is Firestone's first yearling, so he loves to boss around the weanlings and other yearlings in the neighboring paddock as the dominant figure. His most notable half siblings are Sizzling Dawn [G1] and Dashing in the Firelight [G1]. His prospect season already has a 2nd in Latourre Prospect Race 2 and a 5th in Y14 STABLE FACE OFF* Prospect Dirt.
Our second yearling is Fire Goddess, a chestnut filly out of Beyond the Limits x Fleet Goddess. Fancy is half sister to G1 Beyond His Candy, G1 Prize Me Proud, G1 Limitless Time, G1 After Dusk, G5 Flash Limits, G5 Beyond Perfection, G5 Coco Cabana, M Fleet Street and P Beyond The Wire. Her prospect season includes a 5th in the Latourre Prospect Race 2 and a 6th in the Y14 STABLE FACE OFF* - Prospect Dirt.
Third yearling goes to Hellfire, a black filly out of Catching Fire x Blood Of The Angel. Hellfire is among the first of Catching Fire's foals, and the twins Tears Of An Angel and Tears Of Blood are both impressive racers at the age of three, at Grades One and Two and their sister, Siren Call has performed well in prospects so far. She is dual surfaced, and her prospect season includes a 1st in the Latourre Prospect Race 3 (DIRT) and a 4th in Y14 STABLE FACE OFF* - Prospect Turf. We think Flame will end up being a dirt runner.
Last but not least, our newest yearling, Like A Lady. Firestone recently bought her off of Witch Creek Stables. She is a bay filly out of G5 Sweeto Cheeto and G4 Ebony Gold Lady. Her relations include G1 Secret Miracle, G2 Sweet Inferno, G5 Seattle Song, G1 Mystical Melody, G3 Silver Secret, G4 Acantha, G5 Coco Cabana, M Like A Lioness, G5 Spitterfly, M Rigoletta's Song, M Whispering Melody, P Roussong, P Biscuit Boy, P Towering Tempest, P Black Ice, P Pardon My French & all Night Stalker relations. She hasn't been out for a race yet but that will come in time after getting used to Firestone.
