INFERNO && CARTER LEESON
SILVER SERENDIPITY && SAMMIE PICKETT
It’s been a busy season so far, and Carter thought it would be good to take two of the recent runners out for a nice hack to end the week. Inferno and Silver Serendipity were suited up for today’s ride, and Carter had something planned for Sammie. Talia wasn’t available to ride the big gray gelding today, so instead he decided to take Fern instead, knowing he would enjoy the post race relaxation. As for Demi, her recent arrival to the barn was the reason she’s out today. Carter thought this would be a good introduction to racing again, seeing as she was unraced since last year. There would be no training, just a nice, easy ride. Hopefully, this would fix both horses up a bit. No crowds, no opponents, and no circles. Maybe it would change their mindset. Doing something like this had helped plenty of other horses around the stable, including broodmare Terror Smile and fiery Red Herring.
Carter worked quick and efficiently and within ten minutes, Sammie had come down to the barn dressed in normal riding gear. Carter smiled to the small girl, completely aware of the fact they almost had a relationship.
“Hey, Sam,” Carter was the only person to ever call her by the short form of her name. Sammie looked up from her phone and blushed.
“Hi, Carter,” He handed Demi’s reins to her, his hand brushing hers. They both looked up at the same time and Sammie jerked her hand back, blushing even harder.
They both turned from each other and got the horses’ girths tightened and stirrups lengthened. Within 15 minutes they were both finally travelling down the farm driveway. It was spring and everything was just starting to look green again. Dew drops glistened on the tree leaves as they walked around the property to get to the forest pathway located behind the barns.
As soon as the filly's foot touched the soft mud, she stopped and bent down to sniff it, the whole concept of relaxing fairly new to her. Fern was at peace in the forest, as he was used to coming to relax. Sammie let the reins slide through her hands slowly, but she didn't let go of them fully, as she didn't want to be caught off guard if Demi acted all silly or got spooked. Fern stood quietly beside her, his darker gray coat blended in with her own.
They spent half an hour out on the trails, including some trot and canter work to build on stamina. Both horses were tossing their heads in pleasure, the feeling of relaxation finally doing wonders.
