EAVESDROPPER
RIDDEN BY ALEXANDRA "ALICE" LEVINE
Alexandra Levine was the newest owner of Triple Krown Racing, planning to fill her oldest sister's shoes. Her sister, Hailey, had decided to step down from the training business a few years ago. Along with stepping down, she gave up on Triple Krown Racing and left the farm to rot, pretty much. Most of the horses were sold off. Luckily, one of these horses were recovered. That horse is two year old, Eavesdropper. Rave was probably one of the best Triple Crown prospects that TKR had at the time. Although, raced very lightly, he was already showing obvious talent in his three starts so far.
Eavesdropper is a giant black colt, with a passion for racing. He runs just as well on both surfaces but so far, he is seeming to favor turf. He got his first win in the Unicorn Horn Juvenile Turf so that's what Alice decided to stick to in his next start; the Concorde Stakes. Although this turf race had more entries than the dirt race, the Focus Stakes, Alice had decided to enter her two year old in this race in order to make it more of a challenge and to really test his skills as a racehorse. She felt that he would not disappoint, especially after this workout.
Alice rode the giant black colt out to the turf track. He stroke the air and neighed, excitedly. He approached the track with such anticipation to run. His ears were alert, and his eyes, ever trained on the horses that were already out and working. Alice could literally feel him fidgeting with excitement as they stepped onto the track. Alice guessed that Rave hadn't been on the track in more than a couple of months, not since his last race in February anyways. From what her sister had told her about Eavesdropper, she knew that she was in for a ride today.
They began at a slow gallop right at the finish line. Alice's arms felt as if they were going to be ripped from their sockets from holding the powerful colt back. He wanted so much to take off but had just enough manners to hold himself at a gallop. Alice had intentions to just get a nice gallop around the track to work out Rave's energy first but this was forgotten when they neared the end of the second turn. As soon as they hit the homestretch, the black colt's instincts took hold of him.
Rave launched forward in a dark blur, stealing the bit from Alice's grasp. The sudden jolt nearly sent his rider tumbling. Luckily, Alice had good balance and regained her position quickly. Deciding that it was going to impossible to stop Rave now, she let him go. Eavesdropper embraced this freedom and charged down the stretch in a frenzy. His giant strides ate up the ground so effortlessly. He made it look so easy. Despite this illusion, he was travelling at baffling speeds. Alice couldn't see anything except for the black mane that flapped in her face, because of the tears that clouded her vision.
It wasn't until they had entered the first turn again, that Rave slowed down enough for Alice to regain her vision. She wiped the tears from her cheeks and caught looked back to see that they had burst past some horse that had been galloping on the outside. Alice stood in her stirrups and pulled up on the reins. Rave tossed his head and reluctantly slowed to a trot. It wasn't until they were halfway back to stables that Alice realized that Rave had pin pointed that single horse and rider working on the outside and decided that he was going to beat them. Alice smiled and patted the colt's neck that was wet with sweat. He had gotten a good workout and Alice was excited for this upcoming race.
They were ready to take the racing world by storm.
