Sarah lead her pretty grey mare to the mounting block. Since she didn't want to damage the saddle or the horse's back, she always did this. Silver fidgeted beneath her. For the past two days she hadn't been training because Sarah had felt the horse's absymal performance in her last race was a sign the horse was burning out. She decided to give her a longer rest than usual and ease her back to peak condidtion by doing lots of rides on the beach up sand dunes and steep hills at GHS. Sarah adjusted her stirrups so she was sitting deep rather than perched half seated, and gave Bank On Silver a slight squeeze with her lower leg to get her started. Rather than walk like she had been told, Silver broke into a bouncy trot, tossing her head. Sarah tightened the rein and brought the filly back to a walk. She knew she was just playing, and she knew Silver was just fresh. But all the same, now was not the time to mess around like a two year old. Sarah steered her in the direction of the track. They would have a quick gallop once around afterwards, but they were heading toward the steep hill pastures beyond. She sometimes took her pony clubbers trail riding up there, and they loved the beautiful view of the vast size of GHS below. They walked for about 5 minutes, 5 long minutes of Silver flicking her tail irritatedly at the flies. Eager to leave the flies behind, Sarah again squeezed her lower legs against the horses sides and gave the horse a little more freedom with her head, allowing her to trot forward.
