Tears Of Blood
Alex let the deep chestnut colt extend himself as he jogged around the first turn easily in the early morning sun at Green Horse Fields. Grayson Meadows had purchased the stallion from Pigeon bank thoroughbreds, and he was quite the find.
Steve wanted to get Happy right back into racing as soon as possible, so he was entered in the Capricorn Stakes against his twin, Blood of an Angel. The field for the Capricorn Stakes was shaping up to be a very good one. Sugar Jayde would most likely be out on the lead, Blood of an Angel would be following behind. This left Happy with a good solid pace to run at, and pounce at the end when they least expected it. Alex was determined to not let Tears Of An Angel get the jump on Happy again. She had beaten him on three different occasions and Alex wanted to turn that score from 3-0 to 4-1.
At age four, Happy was a grade 1 winner, he was just getting better and better. All he could do was improve off of his next race, and team Grayson Meadows was hoping the results of the Capricorn would be a winning one. However with it being horse racing, the sport and outcomes were unpredictable, so the two would just have to give it 110% right down to the finish.
The pair continued along the final turn, Happy flicking his ears back every once in awhile making sure that he went at the right time. He was wound up like a coil, his muscles tense and ready to fire. Alex held him back until the final stretch. All he had to do was loosen his tension on the reins and Happy sprung. His hooves drove into the ground, he extended his stride and flew down the stretch. Everything rushed past them in a blur, Happy had such a strong closing kick. The two flew right past the wire, Alex felt confidence course through his veins, this horse was fearless, and down right ruthless when it came to closing. They were ready.
