INNOCENT PASSION AND KRYSTAL YHATE
DEMONIC DESIRES AND AMBER BLACK
DEMON'S WORKOUT FOR BOYS FESTIVAL
Now this was a workout she had to see. Henna Turath practically flew out of the barn SOPS owned at the Green Horse Fields track. She raced to the turf track, anxiously hoping she had not missed what would prove to be a speed crazy duel. And God knew that the Henna was addicted to speed. She craved the wind of a sprinter beneath her, legs blurring, with the feeling of invincibility that came only from racing lightning and coming out on top. And a workout between Innocent Passion and Demonic Desires would be choked with speed. Innocent Passion currently had the honor of being the top turf sprinter in the barn. Amber Black often teased Krystal about how Anna would lose the title to Demonic Desires by the end of the season or before, but Krystal had always responded with a small smile. She didn't need to tell Amber just how fast Innocent Passion was. This was the mare that went stride for stride with the speed crazy Cross My Heart and could come out on top. That took guts, unerring determination and a hell of a lot of speed.
But, Henna reflected, Demon was out of this world fast as well. He was the first of his generation to hit grade one, for starters. He had won just over half of his career starts, including four out of six races this season, and he had placed out of the top two only once in his entire career. His older brother Mastermind exuded the same dominance in his division, but at this point in his career Amber could safely say that on paper Demon was outdoing his elder brother. Regardless, they were both highly respected and ridiculously fast. In fact - and Henna's brows furrowed as she considered this - Anna was actually the only horse in the country who had defeated Mastermind in a race this season. True, it had been out of Mastermind's comfort zone over the turf, but a win was a win. Henna smirked wildly and doubled her pace. She would be beside herself if she missed this workout.
And as promised, there they were. There was no mistaking the ease of familiarity with which Krystal guided Anna on the turf track. The slim bay mare looked beautiful at four years old. She had only gotten faster over the years, only gotten more determined to land wins. Her muscles bulged and the strength of her spirit shone from her eyes. She had noticed competition on the track and was treating him with scorn. Henna looked to Demon, noticed the arrogant glare the three year old sent his senior's way. It was clear Demon was all too ready to wage war, but Anna's response seemed to be almost disdainful, like an elder person looking down at an overeager child. And Demon was hardly a child - he towered over Innocent Passion's small fifteen hands. But it had more to do with aura than physicality out there. Henna could not contain her excitement.
As though moving with the breeze, the two thoroughbreds on the track suddenly wheeled around and took off down the rail. The gauntlet had been thrown down, and suddenly there was a horse race. Anna and Demon were both stalkers, and as such noted the position of the other and settled alongside for the beginning of the workout. The burying would come later. Anna tactically noted Demon's position just as much as Demon noted hers. Their legs flew through the air with the ease of horses born running and the brilliance that came with their top class breeding. And it wasn't just the way that they were born, either. No, there was attitude in their eyes, in the determination etched on the faces of their riders. Arrogance glinted in Demon's gaze as he closed in on Anna down the backstretch, pressuring her with his intimidating bulk. Anna was not intimidated. She did not react. She was used to dueling in just about every race, after all.
Speed was the name of the game as they neared the final turn and stretch. Demon and Anna did not budge from each other even as the speed increased. And suddenly, they were clear in the stretch and the running truly began. Anna drew off authoritatively now, putting on the spurt of speed that could catch her black rival Cross right in the stretch. But Demon had brilliance in his soul, and he was not to be left behind. He stayed with Anna like a stubborn burr, eyes burning as he sought to demolish this foe and dethrone her. It was time for him to be king. But Anna would not relinquish the crown. Glued together, they blurred under the wire to the sound of Henna's crazed whoop of excitement. Henna was beaming, her eyes glowing. This workout had proven to be as speed crazy as she had hoped!
