The ride to the Green Horse Fields track seemed to take forever. The sun had just begun to rise above the horizon as she drove her old red truck into the drive. The trailer it was pulling was carrying two year old filly Spitterfly and three year old colt Manhattan Royalty.

Kelly Maccabee, Taylor's assistant trainer, was there waiting for her. She got out of her Jetta and made her way to the Sugarhill Farm horse trailer. A whinny came from inside. "Here's some coffee" Kelly said handing Taylor a foam cup. The coffee was hot and fresh and filled with cream, just the way Taylor liked it. She took a sip. Then, placed it on the edge of her truck bed. It was time to let the horses out.

The first to be backed out was Manny. He sniffed at the familiar air as Kelly lead him back to the shedrow. Taylor was left to get Spitter out. The filly was relaxed and soothed. She backed out easily. The walk to the shedrows was short. Spitter nickered to horses as they passed by them. She was very sociable. She got along with everybody.

Once groomed, the girls mounted the horses and rode them out to the turf track. They were the lone riders. The turf was misted with morning dew. Taylor urged Spitter up to a jog. The filly had a beautiful stride. She edged ahead of Manny. He wasn't going to have any of it. Kelly gave him some rein and allowed him to canter on.

They jogged side by side along the outside rail. They figured they would be alone. If they were, it would be fine. Taylor just hoped some others would join in on the ride. The sounds of horses and people rose louder as the morning progressed. Hopefully they would be joined soon.

Daddy's Overdraft and Alex Shade

My Kingdom Come and Hadley Grayson

The ride to Green Horse Fields was one of almost complete silence that mourning. Hadley sat brewing in the passenger side seat of Alex's 2004 white Chevy Silverado. Alex wasn't going to ask what had gotten her in such a bad mood, she probably had a bit of a difference of opinions with her brother and fought to no end with him and still lost. 
Alex smiled slightly. he knew Hadley wouldn't stay that way, she would soon have a big smile on her face like the Cheshire cat. He always thought it was funny how horses can change your mood entirely. 
A loud whinnie came from the silver horse trailer hitched to his truck that held the ever restless, Daddy's Overdraft and the quiet and gentle My Kingdom Come. 
"I don't get why we brought Cobweb, we could have brought a more sprinter oriented horse, like Frost, or even Crook." Hadley grumbled.
"What's wrong with Cobweb?" Alex smirked, "you aren't admiting to defeat before they even run are you?"
"No! of course not! I was just saying there were others that might have been a better option to bring..." Hadley trailed off. 
Alex pulled his truck up to the part of Green Horse Fields that Grayson Meadows boarded their horses. Hadley hopped out of his truck and quickly had the trailer open and was backing Bay out and Alex followed with Cobweb shortly after.
The two tacked up their mounts and double checked cinches before getting on. Alex threw Hadley up onto Bay, and he managed to hop onto Cobwebs back as well. It wasn't that hard getting on either of their horses though, both of them were a small 15.3 hands. 
"Alright Hadley, lets get going! Hopefully another stable is out there today, it'll be nice to have some friendly competition." Alex said, turning Cobweb in a fast, tight, circle. 
Cobweb lead the walk onto the turf track at Green Horse Fields. It was still early, but Alex could make out the lines of two other horses further down the track. He started running Cobweb through her warm ups and Hadley did the same with Bay. Once they were sure that both of the fillies were nice and loose, they trotted towards the other two horses. Alex soon recognized the two, Spitterfly and Manhatten Royalty of Sugarhill Racing...

Sophie's Voice and Jaimie Sandler
Criss Cross and Stanley Newton

The sun peaked over the top of the hill just in time to light the way of a blue truck, one hauling a trailer with a rapidly familiarizing white logo on the side. Within the vehicle at the wheel sat Stanley Newton, the younger Jaimie Sandler by his side in the passenger seat. The pair had been sent out under orders from Descartes, as their home track was often crowded and The Wire track was a bit too far away for an unplanned visit. Now Jaimie would finally be able to give Sophie's Voice a trial out on the track, and Stanley would be allowed to push Cross out of the slump she had fallen into since her recent and rather disappointing third place finish in the Kindergarten Stakes.

As they pulled up to the track, Jaimie felt nothing but excitement. She loved going out on a horse for the first time, loved learning their ticks and reactions and what made them want to run faster. Sophie's Voice would be no exception to her curiosity, and she was more than ready to prove that they would be able to become just as much a team as she and Paradise Island were. She practically rocketed from the passenger door the instant Stanley stopped the car, eager to back the horses out and get them ready to go. Stanley, while offering the younger girl a smile, did not exit the vehicle at the same speed and instead took his sweet time in getting around to unlock the trailer, enough to make Jaimie roll her eyes at his almost lazy pace. "Whenever you're ready, Stanley." She muttered impatiently, and Stanley simply offered her a smirk before unlatching the trailer.

From there they backed the horses and tacked them up, Sophie's Voice fussing about in the way the head groom had warned. The four year old chestnut may have been a bullet on the track, but she was a little minx on the ground, and for Jaimie who had been use to receiving the more collected horses, it was a bit of a shock when the filly didn't just stand still and let her work. To the left of them, standing by the indifferent Criss Cross, Stanley was grinning again.

Jaimie finally got the chestnut under wraps and followed Stanley's lead as he mounted the white frame of Criss Cross, the two year old filly shifting about slightly to accommodate the extra weight. To Jaimie's relief, Sophie allowed her to board, and from there the chestnut and cremello combo was allowed to walk onto the track.

They had just begun to warm up, Criss Cross really waking up under Stanley, when the jockey glanced up at the track for the first time and realized that they were not alone. Sure enough, half a mile down the track came Daddy's Overdraft and none other than My Kingdom Come, the horse that had shutout Criss Cross in her previous race. Stanley clenched the reins a little tighter as Cross caught sight of the other horses as well, her ears pricking and gate picking up in curiosity. Further down the line, not to be left out stood the Sugarhill Racing crew as well, Spitterfly and Manhattan Royalty among them. Stanley only chanced the barest of glances at Jaimie, "Well would you look at who decided to come out and play today?" He quipped, not at all unkindly, "Do you wanna show them how it's really done?" He had continued, his head tilting towards Jaimie as he waited for her response. For a moment, Jaimie hesitated as Descartes words flooded her head, filling it with talks about furlongs and precise distances they should bring the horses over. Then she simply smiled and dipped head head a bit as she leaned down to scratch at Sophie's neck, "Lets," She stated, nothing but bold, and with a soft squeeze to their horses, both took off in loping canters towards the other horses and their jockeys.

Taylor started to feel better now that more horses have come onto the track. She reached down to stroke Spitter's neck. The filly seemed to tense up a little as she noticed the competition. She made sure to glance at the other four but kept at a steady canter beside Manny, who was snug on her outside.

Kelly nodded her head at the other riders. She couldn't help but notice the other horses. They were all beautifully striking in appearance. She couldn't help but admire them. It wasn't long until she turned her attention back to Manny, who seemed to speed up the pace. He wanted to join the competition. He settled alongside Daddy's Overdraft. That was a high class filly. Manny wanted to use his charm on Cobweb but she bolted her hindquarters towards him and pushed him away. Kelly laughed along with Cobweb's rider, Alex.

Taylor and Spitter kept alongside Criss Cross. The two year old fillies matched strides as they all headed along the track as one big group. Spitter nickered a hello to the fellow filly. Cross whinnied back with a playful buck. They soon settled and headed along with the others.

The group was close together. They continued to warm up the horses, ready for someone to make the first move.

Bay and Hadley kept to the outer edge of the group. Hadley soon found herself calming down and beginning to enjoy the ride as she rode a long the outer side of the group with the others. Most of them probably didn't even know who Bay was, but it didn't bother her, she knew they would all know her name soon enough. 

Cobweb threw her head a little before ducking it back almost to her chest. "Nice day for a ride," Alex said to Kelly, Taylor, Jaimie, and Stanley. "Anybody in the mood for some friendly competition? Cobweb and Bay here could use a nice, solid work." He smiled back at Hadley.

Cobweb snorted and started to veer off in all sorts of directions as soon as she caught the sight of the gate. Alex held the filly back to keep her from bolting for the gate, but managing to keep her some short distance away from the flirty Manhattan Royalty. 

Bay and Hadley stayed silent to the outside of the group. It wasn't something new for either of them, and Hadley didn't mind, Bay liked to see what her competition was, and Hadley recognized the feeling of the filly scanning her eyes over all of the horses around her. Hadley recognized Criss Cross from their previous race, and she was sure Bay did too. 

Once Bay was done scanning everyone over several times, she sped up slightly, and Hadley figured she didn't see any of them as huge threats to her. It was kind of funny too. Bay might not seem it, but she was very cocky in her own, calm, Bay-like way.
