The racing world is abuzz with word of the new breeding partnership and joint sale being hosted by respected stables Intrepid Racing and Witch Creek. But they are not the only stables making strides on the breeding frontier. Stride of Perfection Stables, unlike many of the other big stables, is keeping their stallions public for the Year Fifteen season. They are welcoming some new faces to their stud line-up and are also hosting a foal crop sale. SOPS foal crop sales have been hailed as outrageous before. At the last sale in Year Twelve, the full sibling to grade one Breeders Cup Classic winner was sold. This horse was Dancing Fool. Wild Daisy, the successful juvenile turfer, was also sold at the last foal crop sale. Clearly, SOPS keeps the quality high at these sales, and buyers can be assured of getting a champion in the making.
The way SOPS stud breeding works is like this - horses are either offered for a set number of bookings that must be approved, or studs are available by private offer. This essentially means that interested parties must contact Amber Black with their offer, and there is no predetermined number of bookings allowed.
Horses such as Shiver Me Timbers (sire of G1 Aquatic Addiction, Tick Tock Sprint winner Optimus Unstoppable, successful juveniles Siren Call and Palisades Pirate), Jessie James (sire of G1 turf champions Infinite Warcry and Dazzling Dame as well as Wild Daisy) and Barely A Moment (most successful foal Sizzling Dawn is the winner of the Y13 Preakness Stakes) will be offered to the public. New additions to the roster include Autumn Storm, the sire of grade one well respected colt Dark Charmer. And this list doesn't even include the studs available on private offer (Merry Bay King, Sweet Sugar Cane, Passionate Class to name a few) or even the new retirees! So far, Amber has not officially confirmed just who will be retiring to stud following Year Fourteen, but speculation has indicated that Forbidden To Fly and Royal Cadenza will be among them, as well as Infinite Warcry as he makes his return to SOPS.
As if this is not enough to be excited about, Amber dropped hints of a foal crop sale being offered, with foals out of some of her open broodmares for the Year Fifteen season. It has been confirmed that at least six weanlings will be offered at the sale. When pressed for details, Amber only revealed that people should keep their rosters open for an influx of fantastic SOPS blood. She mentioned that the majority of weanlings offered will be third-generation SOPS foals, a rarity among stables in the industry. And she revealed only one cross - a foal by Ode To Glory, winner of the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf, and out of Wild Kiss, winner of the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. This foal will actually be a fourth-generation cross, and if this pedigree indicates anything, it's that the other crosses available will be equally brilliant at this sale.
So keep your eyes peeled, your pocketbooks filled and your rosters open. Intrepid and Witch Creek should not be the only places you go to in order to find your future champions during the Year Fifteen season.
