Catching Up With Grayson Meadows
A lot has happened since May! Grayson Meadows brings you a full progress report about three of our current stars in each division! (I was bored so enjoy this somewhat crappy newsletter )
A Few Horse Reports:
2yo (I couldn’t pick three so you get four! )
Call Me Crooked - Crook has become our wonder filly, she’s been racking up wins ever since her FTH Juvenile Turf Sprint win. We purchased her when she was still G5 and we are pleased to announce that Crook is now the first two year old of the season to reach G3 status! She’s taken races such as the Demosielle Stakes* and the Riley Allison Futurity*. We couldn’t be more proud of the bay filly! She’s expected to take a bit of a break and return to the races at the end of September in the Hawk Cup*.
Chatoyant - Tayo literally came from nowhere. He had nothing but a maiden win and a solid second place finish in the June Juvenile Dirt Faceoff going into the Frizette Stakes* at The Wire. However, that didn’t stop the son of Deathflash’s Pride from running down the heavy favorite Sun King to spring a massive upset. They’re next faceoff wouldn’t come until the Orchard Cup Colts* where Sun King annihilated the competition, but a pattern started. Tayo would meet the Chestnut son of Native Flame again in the August Juvenile Dirt Faceoff, where he ran down his rival to win by a nose. There has been talk of a possible rivalry forming between the two. Back in May, Tayo was simply a 2 year old, uniquely colored maiden with an impressive pedigree. Today he is G4, and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. He is expected to run again in the Smart Halo Stakes* at The Wire, September Week 3. It is unknown if he will see his rival Sun King there.
Phantasm Frost - He wasn’t in our May newsletter because he wasn’t purchased yet! But none the less, Phantasm Frost is another one to keep on your radars! Frost is a bit unpredictable and streaky, but when Grayson Meadows had purchased him he was G5 with only two wins to him, now he is G4 and popping up in HOTY races here and there. He’s won the Cluer Memorial Stakes* Since we’ve purchased him, and we are hoping to see another big win from him sometime soon. Frost is also expected to run in the Hawk Cup* at the end of September.
Take Flight - Bought along with Phantasm Frost, we thought his pedigree was too good to refuse! Fly came out and won his first race with Grayson Meadows and we decided we had something special. He was G5 at the time and now he is G4. The son of Merry Bay King is hopefully going to be our Turf Triple Crown contender for next year. However, much like Frost, he’s either up, or he’s down. Fly seemed to have everything going very well, but a out of money placing is concerning to us. We’ve been working with the colt with hopes that he finds his stride again. Expect to see Fly again in the September Juvenile Turf Faceoff.
3yo
Dare To Impress - Although she failed to win the Turf Triple Crown, Imp isn’t no longer a threat. After a few weeks rest and a win in an undercard race, Imp is almost back in full swing! The daughter of Impressario is one win away from G2 and has been training well since her win in the Hobnob Stakes at The Wire. Since then, she’s came in third in the Simply A Flyer Memorial Stakes* against older competition and we are very pleased with her. Imp’s next start will be the Wildly Natural Memorial Stakes*.
Allouette Divine - This wonderful filly has stolen our hearts in the time she’s been with us! A few months ago, the racing world may not have considered a bay filly from unknown lineage to become one of the top three year old sprinters in the country. However, she has achieved just that. Back in March, everyone thought Alucard and Optimus Unstoppable would be duking it out for the Sprinter Triple Crown, no one expected that a filly would stand in between them, and no one expected that Allouette Divine would be one of the biggest threats in a field full of colts. Allouette Divine came in second in the first leg of the Sprinter Triple Crown to Optimus Unstoppable, but she bounced back to deny Optimus Unstoppable the Red Wine Sprint. She is now G3 and is looking to be improving off of her win to come back and do it again! Divie is pointing to the final leg of the Triple Sprinter Crown, the Speedway Stakes*, September Week 3.
Dreaming Of Glory - Nothing too special about this boy, other than that we’ve had to work our tails off just to get him rolling! He came to us rather lazy, and he was a puzzle to solve! However, we think we may have him figured out. We’ve been jogging him anywhere between a 1 mile and 1/2 to 2 miles every day along with an actual workout. Glory doesn’t like to make things easy for us at Grayson Meadows! We’ve placed four fresh horses out on the track every day with him to push him through every 1/4th of his work! It may look odd, to others, but it seems to have helped the colt gain his confidence back, and keep him interested during works. His next start will come in the Novozio Derby, September Week 1.
4yo
Immortal Flight - He’s quickly becoming a favorite around here. Although he’s quiet and easy going, Nico doesn’t give up easily. He recently became G2, he’s tried four times to win a G2 race and failed at every attempt! But with some experience around G2 caliber horses, Nico is bound to start winning again. He’s streaky, and a bit inconsistent with his placings, but he’s coming around. He will make his next start in the Wildly Natural Memorial Stakes* the competition is stiff, but we don’t doubt that he’ll do his best!
Passion Heart - Our little underdog horse, Ally has definitely made a total U-turn this year, and it has been for the better. She’s gotten much better with age, and is turning into quite the impressive race horse! Her record has never looked better and she just graded up to G3! She started at G5 with 3 wins to her record when we bought her, could Ally go from G5 to G1 in one season? We’re trying to remain realistic, but we hope for the best from the daughter of Passionate Ruler. She’s proved nothing gets her down, after a disastrous finish in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes* she bounced back to take the Autumn Cup Grade Four Turf* with authority! We never expected such great things from Ally when we bought her, but she’s run her way right into our hearts at Grayson Meadows, and we’ll be sad to see her retire at the end of the year. Ally will be taking a step down in class for her first race in G3 status, she’s targeting the G3 Beijing Cup September Week 3 at Green Horse Fields.
Silver Secret - Sissy finally got her 13th win at The Wire in the G2 Synergy Derby R2! We’ve done a lot of thinking about whether to let Sissy go into a well deserved retirement, but we’ve decided to keep her until the end of the season. We are interested to see what she can do, hopefully she can win a HOTY race before the end of the season! Sissy will be running again in September Week 2 at The Wire.
