Dreamcatcher and Lucy McCummins
September Week 4 Workout
Fog caressed the ground like a blanket. Lucy was out early trotting around on the dirt track with newcomer, Dreamcatcher. The chestnut mare had yet to run since September of LAST year. The year long layoff didn't fair well for her, but Lucy was confident the mare would make a good comeback.
Cher was sired by Grade One racehorse CCI Surprise Party and her dam, well Dare To Dream was known by many. Her blood ran through many horses that ran on the Green Horse Fields and The Wire tracks. Cher had a good record, only making it off the board in three races. Lucy wanted to build her back up, enter her into some small races and see how she did.
Lucy urged Cher up to a canter. The mare kicked out her hind legs in excitement. She wanted to run like the wind. Lucy kept a firm hold, not wanting the mare to overtake her. Cher was too excited to obey. Her head was thrown all over as she fought the bit. She tugged and yanked, but finally gave up. She knew she needed to save her energy for her run.
When Lucy let her go, she certainly shot off with a bang. She thundered down the track for the four furlong breeze. There were no others around. Just this pair. Lucy loosened the reins a little and felt the power under her. Cher went all out, pulling ahead at an incredible burst of speed. It was an impressive run.
Lucy pulled her up and patted her neck. It was impressive for such a short run. She would make the next one longer. The mare was ready to get back into the competition. She was ready to get back out there and fly.
