Baby Steps
Tears of an Angel and Andrew Martin
The newly purchased Tears of an Angel and Andrew Martin stepped onto the track. She was a dashing sight, the sun shone brightly on her copper colored coat. She could easily be identified by her bright white blaze and passionate eyes. She’d settled in well at Grayson Meadows, however it wasn’t a surprise to anyone because she was adaptable. Lucy had settled in very well and made herself right at home at Grayson Meadows, she’d taken a liking to everyone but especially Andrew. She hadn’t run in awhile, but she had to get back into racing. Her layoff really set her back, and she hadn’t been given much of a chance to bounce back and show what she really could do.
Her next start would come in the October Turf Stakes, a lower class race, but it was a race that was good. Grayson Meadows wanted to take baby steps with the daughter of Cryin’ Out Loud. She’d been in such great form in her 3 year old and 2 year old season it wouldn’t prove to be too difficult to get her back there-- the key was to keep her active. She’d be running against the likes of Mighty News and Sugar Rush. Lucy was older and more experienced, making her the clear winner, but this season she hadn’t been as tough as she had in previous seasons. However, that could be used to Grayson Meadows advantage.
They broke quickly from the gates, and Lucy settled under Andrew. Her stride smooth and even, everything flew past them in a rush of adrenaline and power. Her small body flew over the turf at blazing fast speed and when the stretch opened up before them she kicked everything into another gear, everything was an absolute blur. Turf flew behind her and she ate up the turf, they hit the wire and Andrew was confident that with a little bit of more training, this mare could really show the racing world what she had.
