With the Breeders' Cup World Championships looming closer and closer as the weeks move on, The Gallop had a chance to catch up with head trainer of Firestone Racing, Carter Leeson, and caught a glimpse of what to expect in this years' running of the Breeders Cup.
TG: Thanks for chatting with us today, Carter. Despite the rainy weather, how are you today?
CL: I'm great, thanks for asking. Very excited to see what will happen in the upcoming weeks leading to the Breeders Cup.
TG: Speaking of the Breeders Cup, can you tell us who to expect in this years races?
CL: Of course! Let's start with the juveniles.

First up we have black colt, Speak Easy. He will be running in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Dirt against a really tough crowd, no doubt about that. He's been on a roll this year, and to have our first horse as a barn make it to the BC, it's a really great feeling. He is currently entered in the Youth Challenge here at Green Horse, and has proved to be successful so far by winning the first leg of it back in October Week 3. He is two wins away from reaching a Grade Three status, and we have no doubts that he can do it before the last week of December.
In the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf, Refute is scheduled to run against the top turfers. He is entered in the Turf Challenge over at the Wire. With a disappointing finish in the first leg, he rallied to beat a tough field of 7 horses to take the win, proving everyone who doubted him wrong. Hopefully he can repeat this in the last leg, and then again in the Gorgeous George Stakes before prepping for his first Breeders Cup debut.
Tough as a nail filly, Siren Call, will be running in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Sprint. We have been running her under the radar for a bit but I think now is the time to start bringing her back into the HOTY races. Last race, she finished fourth in the EVITA ARGENTINA STAKES* at The Wire, and is scheduled to run in the E.L GAYLORD MEMORIAL STAKES* also at the Wire. This girl has got to be the toughest two year old Firestone has ever had, she's a true fighter and I have high hopes fo her this year. She is a horse who will excel most next year in the Triple Sprinter Tiara.
TG: Looks like you have a nice crop of Juvies this year, Carter! What about the 3 year olds and up?
CL: Right, well here they are.

Our first three year old we are sending is Devil's Blessing, who will be racing in the Breeders Cup Dirt Mile. Unfortunately, this has been a slow year for the colt, who hasn't had much HOTY exposure. Depending on the field, Cian will either stay or be scratched and moved to an undercard race the same day. We don't want to push him until he is ready, and his Breeders Cup experience may have to wait another year.
Lost In Memories is another one we are uncertain about, but we know she does have the talent. If plans work out, she will make her start in the Breeders Cup Filly & Mare Turf. She, too, has had a rough year, and hasn't placed in any of her respective HOTY races, but has been winning in undercard races respectively. Emma does have a grade four status, but we aren't sure if it will be enough to place against older, more experienced horses.
Sprinter Silver Serendipity (left) will officially be entered in the Breeders Cup Filly & Mare Turf Sprint. This girl came late in the season to Firestone, and hasn't been out of the money since. She almost snagged the title of Turf Sprinter Triple Tiara, only losing in one of the races to rival Sugar Rush. Demi rushed to a grade three status and has 4 HOTY points. I have no doubt that she will be placing in this years Breeders Cup.

Coco Cabana is our last three year old to be entered, and he will be running in the Breeders Cup Marathon. He as well is a G3 with 4 HOTY points. Coco had been in a 4th place slump for the longest time, but he is finally breaking that with a 2nd place against a crop of 4 year old G1's in the True Enough Memorial Stakes*. He will most likely be running against the same crowd in the Marathon.
CL: In terms of four year olds, all horses will be running except for Arlequinn.

Older turf sprinter Flying Solo, will be entered once again Breeders Cup Turf Sprint. With a 4th place in last years BC, and him being on a 1st and 2nd place streak, I hope his last Breeders Cup will be a good one.
Our only entry in the Breeders Cup Classic comes from 4 year old sensation, Red Herring. He has also been on the down low, with only a few wins this year and an abundance of seconds and thirds, we hope that his Classic race last year is not a repeat this year.
This year, we borrowed Intrepid Racing's Princetta to run in the Breeders Cup Filly & Mare Turf. From being with us, she has since jumped from G3 to G1 within a few races, racking up points on the way. We hope her BC results are excellent.
-Possible Entries-
Dark Maiden - BC Juvenile Sprint
Whispering Melody - BC Juvenile Fillies
Arlequinn - BC Turf Sprint
