She really was the new kid on the block, the sleek elegant filly who would catch everyones eyes. It was just crazy. Within moments of being in the paddock, this filly was best friends with Lottie already. Callie knew she'd bought something special when Witch Creek Stables offered Swift Stride this magnificent filly, sired by Popcorn Blitz meaning she hadrelations to the amazing Mastermind, and hall of famer Speed Demon. From the moment she stepped onto the yard, Callie had fallen in love with her. When she was lead off the box, Dani had jumped four feet into the air and jumped down the ramp. It was only slightly crazy. Oh wait, that's an understatement. Trotting in circles, Callie took hold of her and stood still - Dani stopped, her glimmering eyes staring straight into Callies. Dani stepped towards Callie, ears pricked. Callie put her hand into her pocket and got a mint out. Callie sniffed the mint as she was offeredit, before immediately nibbling the polo off Callie's hand. Shesettled straight away. Kayla stood watching the pair, knowing that they were perfect for eachother.
And so it began. Callie grinned as she mounted up onto the grey filly, staring effortlessly over the turf track that laid before them. It was an amazing sight. Placing her feet into the irons, Dani took a step backand snorted, before giving a little kick and trotting forward. It was brilliant. The filly had been entered in her first races. The sprint distance was perfect for the filly, as she walked perfectly onto the turf. Callie was so honoured that Kayla had gotthis fine specimen of a filly for her - Dani nickered as she stepped out onto the turf, looking round with her neck arched, going on the bridle perfectly. A small squeeze and a sneaky small buck sent the filly into a rhythmic trot - it didn't take a lot to warm the filly up, she was one of those energetic horses.
Rounding the turfs first turn in trot, the filly broke into a steady jogging lope, head held low and into her chest. She was a beauty to watch from the grand stand. Kayla was stood watching overthe pair through her binoculars. It wasn't anything great at the moment, but when she raced, she was one hell of a horse to watch. She was going to work four furlongs handily over the turf from the gates. As they reached the gates the filly seemed to become alert, her head lifting and eyes gleaming. Callie pulled the reins and she slowed from a lope, down into a trot then a walk. She pawed at the ground, showing that she wanted to go. She wanted to go now, and this time nothing was going to stop her, she was an amazing filly, and this time nothing was going to stop Callie from forfilling her dreams of owning a true amazing racehorse.
Snorting, Dani loaded easily into the gates, allowed the handlers to box her, Callie stroked her neck as she prepared for the gates to open, as the filly needed a little reminder. She wasalways a slow starter, but within seconds her long powerful strides took her to the front of that pack, and she wasn't going tobe held back this time. "Come on girl, let's make you a champion, you've got some legacy to live up to." Callie stood waiting, Dani shifting her weight beneath her. As the bell rang, Dani threw her head up, wish a kick from Callie, she burst out asusual, slowly but picking her pace up, her pace high typical ofa front runner. As she rounded the home bend through the first furlong, her pace did not drop. Instead, it seemed the filly would put every ounce of her strength into the short workout - theywere only doing four furlongs. She was a strong and powerful filly.
As they came into the home stretch, Dani's ears twitched and her mane flew out behind them. Her sturdy hooves carried the four beat gallop quickly and easily. Callie crouched down and niggled the reins as they tore down the track. Callie didn't even need to push the filly, she wasn't one of those that needed to be pushed for speed, it was one hell of an automatic response forher. This was going to be a good year for the pair. Coming intothe final furlong, the filly's speed increased as she carried Callie through the furlong and across the wire in tremendous style. It was something incredible to watch, but more incredible to be on board. This was going to be a good year, and this was going to be their year.
