Early April was here, and one filly that was destined for the Magic Millions hadn't raced. Infact, the shattering feeling was causing some form of dilemma for Kayla. It was hurting her, and deep down she thought her stables was going down the pan.
"What are we going to do with her?" Kayla sighed, staring down at the paperwork that lay in front of her. "It isn't your fault hun." Callie said, sitting onto the desk. "I mean, she's doing well, and since that injury she seems to have bounced back - don't you agree?" Kayla muttered under her breath, ruffling her short hair and blinking, one person running through her head rapidly. "Well, I agree to some extent - it's just, if she was improving, surely she would've got that maiden win by now? It's like this huge mount of pressure has been mounted onto me and her both to do well this season." Callie grumbled. "Just chill out hun, it's only April, we've got another month ahead of us, she will break her maiden, I'm sure of it." A knock on the office door alarms them. Kayla looks at Callie, before looking to the oak office door. "Come in," she shouted slightly.
Walking into the office was Michelle, the young and rather attractive veterinarian from the stables. "Hello ladies," she said, smiling and flicking her long dark curly hair behind her ears. Kayla smiled, there was something about this lady that she liked, and it was in a way that nobody else would understand. A red flush came across Kayla's face, she brushed her hands through her fringe. "I have some good news," She said again, breaking the awkward silence that came upon them. Kayla smiled before speaking. "Ooh, exciting. Care to divulge?" A grin came upon Michelle's face. "Lottie is definitely fit to run again, you can race her again in a week or so, just prepare her, she's going very well by the looks of her workout last week. Her tendon is fine, no heat, no lameness." Kayla jumped out of her seat, a huge smile pasted across her face. She punched the air, a sense of victory coming across her. She stepped forward and gave Michelle a big hug, before muttering into her ear. "Thank you..." she whispered. "It's okay sweetie, she's your pride and joy."
April Week Two was here, and the filly had breezed a couple of times, and today was the first time that she was going to be working properly. Three furlongs sprint over the dirt was enough. Kayla walked through the barn, a sensation of 'guppies' bubbling round her stomach. She had grown intensely strong feelings for Michelle. It was something she couldn't hide as well as she thought she could. Just thinking about it sent her legs to jelly, something chronic. Kayla adored her. Her feet scuffed as she stepped out onto the yard, to see the beautiful young lady stood there holding her horse, the two year old filly who was yet to break her maiden. She was beautiful and precious like a diamond. Fastening her hat up, Kayla walked over to Michelle. "Hey," she said to her, a feeling of flush coming over her face. "Hi sweetie," Michelle smiled at her. The butterflies came running back.
Kayla wanted to do everything she could to impress her. Michelle offered Kayla a leg up, three, two, one... she counted in her head, before Michelle look hold of her leg and used her strength to throw her up elegantly onto the sixteen hand and one inch filly. Lottie snorted, and shook her head. She steped forward as Kayla took hold of the reins. "Are you walking up with us?" Kayla questioned. Michelle smiled and nodded. The filly stepped forward to Kayla's asking. "Kay..." Michelle said, stopping. Kayla stopped the filly before turning to look at Michelle. "Um, do you... do you want to go out for a drink tonight?" Kayla grinned, this sense of confidence coming over her. "I would love to!" She said, smiling so much her face muscles would freeze if she smiled much longer.
Lottie snorted with excitement as Kayla took hold of the reins again. Michelle walked behind them as they entered the turf, the feeling among them overwhelming. Walking onto the track the filly pricked her ears and snorted loudly. Kayla stood in her stirrups as the filly bounced into an energetic trot over the turf surface. She swished her head and shook her mane, whinnying across the track as she did so. Michelle giggled from the side lines. As they entered the back stretch Kayla asked her for canter, and with that, she responded perfectly. They continued along the back stretch, Lottie's long low stride covering every inch of the surface effortlessly.
Kayla crouched down a bit and rocked with the filly's rhythm, she'd settled down a bit and she breezed across the surface perfectly. Rounding the bend, four furlongs approached and Kayla crouched down, before pushing the filly on. Lottie extended her stride and galloped across the surface. She opened up as they came into the home stretch, when the final three furlongs were in front of them. Kayla didn't have to do much more as the filly sprinted down the stretch under a hand ride. Across the wire, Kayla relaxed and stood, patting the filly's neck as she pulled her up. Lottie pranced a little bit in the downwards transition from canter to trot, throwing her head up and bucking slightly. She definitely enjoyed the run.
Coming back to the entrance of the track, Kayla hopped off. Michelle ran onto the track and smiled, before throwing her arms around Kayla, who still had Lottie's rein in her hand. "That was amazing, princess..." She whispered into Kayla's ear. Kayla smiled and closed her eyes throughout the rest of the hug. Michelle took her arms from round Kayla before leaning in and giving her a kiss on the lips. Kayla's heart melted... How did she know? she thought. Michelle leant back and smiled, Lottie nickered. Both girls look at each other before bursting out laughing. It was perfect timing. "Well done Lottie," Michelle said. Kayla continued to laugh. "Toilets in the barn you know love? You look like you're about to wee yourself!" The laughter continued as they walked hand in hand into the barn together, Lottie by their side.
