STARFIRE Jockeyed by Meredith Hently
SPARX'S WORKOUT FOR THE ACORN STAKES
StarFire would have this season she was older and a little bit more confident with the help of her jockey Meredith and trainer Carrie to help that simple push. Meredith sat calmly on her back while Carrie held the reins and walked her out slowly with a small resistance from the filly Carrie fed her some oats to enthuse her a little bit. "This is gonna be a little out of Sparx's range because we all know in her mind she is not a filly she is a colt so let's take her out steady." Carrie said releasing the reins to Meredith. StarFire bobbed her head before cantering out onto the surface.
"Care I have faith in Sparx I do know to look out for Honorary as well as Calypso's Fury her name on the tracks has come through as well as Denza remember that filly used to run for us." Meredith said patting Sparx's shoulder. Meredith was eager to get this filly up there like she did with Reflected in Water in the Acorn Stakes. Their were two scratched already which meant an even playing field but StarFire would give it all her best within the entire pack. The dark bay filly gritted her teeth being walked out onto the track like she needed an escort. She had Augusto lines running through her and she needed the edge to push her through.
Honorary had a looked record with only four wins but StarFire shared the same difficulty she only had three wins to her name two of them were HOTY races winning this race would make her move up to G4. Flaming Confidenza was a filly of the distance with placing out of the money three times. Calypso's Fury had a long record as well, this horse was a sibling to Akuma Battlecry a well known stallion around the tracks. StarFire was not only a daughter of Bucephalus but out of Fly High Silver an old lined mare who became exceptional.
"Take her out easy and steady then turn her loose at the final pole." Carrie stated before releasing the filly who bobbed her head and trotted away with Meredith on her back. She took off with a strong push pulling to the middle of the track throwing the dirt behind her as she moved. StarFire had the speed on her legs and when the time was right she gave her jockey a little bit more shove to pick up the pace at the right moment. StarFire would cross with Denza on the backstretch before meeting Honorary to get to Calypso's Fury and she would stalk them til they would tire.
Meredith moved her to the final pole and gave the filly the go before StarFire raised her ears and raised her tail to the point she extended her strides to move at an even faster pace. She had saved the enough amount of energy to use up at the final stretch where she passed the wire just after the given time. The Acorn Stakes was a high staked race, a leg of the Triple Tiara and Meredith prayed this race would be Sparx's and she had another Acorn Stakes to her name.
