The dark bay filly anxiously pawed at the ground as she awaited commands from her rider, Sydney Thompson. who sat perfectly still in the saddle. Holly was giving her instructions. Cara wasn't gonna have it. She was getting tired of waiting. She wanted to stretch her legs out onto the track. The dainty two year old was just beginning her racing career. She was a beautiful daughter of Oceanic View's stud Super Sparky and their mare Curious Tale. She was just coming out of the wings.
The filly was a spitfire on the turf. Holly was quite impressed with the young horse. She saw a bright future ahead for the beauty. Cara sniffed at the warm air. It was cloudy and humid. Storms would be rolling in soon. They needed to get the workout going. She wanted to be out on the track. "I believe five furlongs will be perfect for her. I want to see what she's made of and there's plenty of people out here who can have their eyes on her", Holly said. The young rider gave her a nod.
Sydney's long blonde hair was draped in a french braid down her back. At 18 she was just at the start of her riding career. She ponied racehorses before. Now it was time to compete in the real races. She was already getting attached to Vista Ridge's other two current racehorses. Now, it was time to try Cara out.
They trotted onto the turf course at Green Horse Fields. Cara bowed her neck, eyeing the ground ahead of her. Her muscles rippled as she moved. She was another eye catcher for the stable. She would capture everyone's hearts. She was the first foal for her sire and dam. She would certainly give them a jump in popularity. She was going to be a champion for sure.
Sydney took the filly along at a trot. The filly seemed to lengthen her strides, wanting to have the hold off of the bit so she could fly. Sydney turned her around where the starting gate was located. She loaded into the chute like a charm. When the doors shut behind her she shot her head up. She was breathing hard. Sweat already covering her shoulders and neck. It was just the beginning.
The gate opened and away she went. "Easy girl. Easy", Sydney whispered. She knew the filly was a closer. She would have her energy saved for the stretch, but the stretch came quickly. Sydney flashed the whip in front of Cara's eyes. The filly jumped into a higher gear and flew on. She thundered down the straight away, increasing speed with each stride.
Flying past the line, Sydney reached down to give Cara a pat. What a great start. It was just the beginning for the powerhouse filly.
