Many times Dee has been compared to the likes of both Hastings and the late Halo as far as temperament goes. He doesn't like people; at all, and his temperament has earned him the nicknames "Devil Colt", "Satan" or "That mean little piece of s***". He loves lurking in the back of his stall and rushing the door at some poor unsuspecting passerby obviously unaware of Dee's reputation. There isn't a single person in the barn Dee hasn't kicked at least once; let alone bitten, and there's only a select few people allowed to handle him--judging by who Dee has decided he'll tolerate. He does, however, adore Mia, who has basically known him since foal hood, and has deemed her his "human mommy".
On the track, Dee is hellfire and brimstone. He's got speed for days, it's just been a matter of channeling that speed and drive into focusing on his job and not trying to eat his competition. Mia's other half. training manager and barn manager, Danny, with a twisted sense of humor, gave her a framed photo of "The Savage"; a famous photo of Great Prospector biting Golden Derby during the Tremont Stakes on July 21, 1980, wryly telling her "Look, it's Dee when we finally get him running."
Dee has a ton of staying power and a ton of go, and we're hoping when he finally gets his mind on track and comes to realize the goal is not, in fact, to ambush the entire field but in fact to win the race, that he'll have a ton of promise as a successful racehorse. When his mind is focused, Dee is unstoppable.
