INFERNO && TALIA SMITH
Fall Workout
Unexpectedly, the gray gelding had made his way home back to Firestone. Carter was frustrated, seeing as he thought Inferno would be a good match for Rock of Ages Racing, but it was obviously not meant to be. He had so many horses clashing at this point; he was almost forced to run them against each other. Running a hand through his hair, he watched the gray gelding being led out to the track.
The area was as dark as if it was 1am, until Carter finally hit the lights. It amazed everyone that they were allowed to book time this early, Fern, however, certainly didn't mind. He moved well and chewed at the bit, eager to get a move on and stretch his legs. He wanted this run. The gelding was feeling chipper, feeling strong, as he was loaded into the gate. This run would do him good, seeing as he had an unplanned amount of time off. There was a moment of silence, where nothing stirred. Talia’s' thoughts were scattered, as the gates crashed open and she forced herself to focus on the horse and track as they rocketed off. She kept Fern steady, noting how well the horse replied. His strides were long, and there was plenty of hurry, but not the exhausting rush that another less intelligent horse might offer. In the dark of the night morning, the gelding's grey body almost melted away and Carter was straining his eyes to see.
Fern stayed with Talia’s commands fairly easily, following the curve of the track with ease - his balance steady as they turned. Once they hit the straightaway, the four year old responded gracefully, speeding up and pulling ahead of an imaginary crowd. The grey headed to the inside without any help from Talia, staying near the rail as they passed the pole marking the sixth furlong. Everything got faster and faster from there on out. Fern was good and ready for this race; he was capable, and nothing was bothering him. They rocketed past the finish line not long afterwards, puffs of steam rolling off of the gelding’s body. If that wasn’t game ready, then Talia didn’t know what game ready was.
