SNODPMS Case Report
(A specialist division of SOPS and NDM. Also referred to as Sudden Nocturnal Over Dose of Purposefully Mixing Stables, or most affectionately, it's midnight and Izzy is in the field wrangling ponies who are laughing at her poor attempts at maintaining a semblance of control.)
*During which NDM looked after SOPS ponies while Frosty was away.*
Case #1: Probably the fastest and most observable of the entire season where SOPS ponies were visiting NDM ponies was the rivalry between Pandora and Impress the Moonlight. On at least three race meets Pandora won over Moonlight, which made the latter filly extraordinarily upset. It's not sure who began this, but nearly every morning check on the pastures found Moonlight surrounded by remnants of Pandora's toys, and Moonlight's toys were being hidden in tree and bush clusters in the area Pandora stayed in. One toy took a fire truck lift bucket to retrieve, and no, we do not wish to comment how it got there. It was very clear to all involved that a mixing of the two in either workout practice or pasture practice would be potentially explosively volatile for both parties. So it was not attempted. NDM has spent an extra $875 on replacement toys in this episode. Also to note, when Moonlight finally beat Pandora in a race, Pandora began also destroying Moonlight's toys instead of just hiding them. So SOPS will have an extra $336.24 added to its bill. This has led to a new department of NDM to hire some scientists who are working tirelessly in efforts to create an indestructible horse toy. It has yet to be accomplished, all test objects thus far have not survived 24 hours. On several nights we attempted to stay up and see just how these horses were getting each other's toys. Those were the only quiet nights where both fillies remained passive and in their own pastures. We assume fence jumping was involved, but we are not able to prove this. Yet.
Case #2: Prometheus vs. Wings of Angels. Both sired by the famous HOF Flashy Wings in Y14 and Y15 respectively, this pair somehow seem to have figured out they are related. How? We don't know. Every day at exactly 4:18 p.m. sharp the pair meet up on the fence line that separates their pastures and wait, staring each other down. At precisely 4:21 they take off, racing down the line until they meet the corner end, where it becomes a game of chicken to who veers off first. It varies who wins the race and who wins the chicken contest each day, but we are proud to say that our darling Wings of Angels can hold her own just fine against her elder brother.
Case #3: Merry Bay King x Sugar Demon. Sugar Demon? -shiver- The cold and distant filly who shrugs off everyone else completely throws her whole demeanor away when she catches sight of Merry Bay King. We aren't quite sure if she recognizes his incredible abilities and talent, or if it's just love at first sight, or perhaps enviable awe in which she is inspiring to become just like him. Whatever the reason may be, whenever she spots him, however far off, she attempts to get as close as she can to him and attract his attention in any way possible. The first few months he seemed relatively indifferent to the two year old, but over time we have seen a change in him. He'll amble over towards her, whuff out a breath of air, and sort of jaunt off with a flick of his tail, almost as if saying, "you're all right, kid". There have been rumors of potentially fence breaking/jumping clandestine meetings under the large willow tree in the far back paddock, but so far they have been unsubstantiated. There is a charge of $1,376.91 fence repair fees for SOPS.
Case #4: Oh dear. I don't know how this one occurred, but we can no longer separate Wired from Athena's Desires. Someone left a gate open and Wired found his way in Athena's stall. We found them curled up together like two peas in a pod. Every since Wired is by her side, we even have to trailer the colt along for Athena's races! She refuses to go without him, and will flatly refuse to enter any trailer, stall, or pasture if Wired isn't by her side. We sincerely regret all vocal and physical problems that will occur to both parties and those ground workers with them when they do finally need to part.
Case #5: Another rivalry. Tiger Heart has been challenging Ventura to no end. Every chance the spirited colt gets he races to Ven, demanding match races. The mare isn't exceptionally thrilled with the youngster pushing her around, and so far has won every challenge the colt has issued her. We have heard rumors of some secret weekly match races going on by the large lake behind NDM in the woods, as Saturday nights nearly half of all the horses stabled at NDM seem to 'go missing'. Ven seems quite pleased with herself most Sunday mornings, and Tiger is unusually agitated and stubborn.
Case #6: It seems that Axis Mundae has fallen head over heels for Lookin' Back Lucky. We're not sure how this one developed either, but we often hear one or the other of them vocally calling each other even from miles away. Their racket is loud and lasts for hours, if you thought Limited Edition was bad just get within ear shot of these two. They refuse to quiet down until they can have some "alone time" with just a few fence lines to separate them. They remain extremely vocal, though in more of a cooing manner, and we swear it's a new kind of horse conversation. No other horses dare approach them during these special meetings, and we do not wish to comment further.
Case #7: We were able to easily mix most of the broodmares from SOPS and NDM, and both sets seems just fine with the other. Afterglow and Dash for Cash have hit it off quite nicely, spending many lazy afternoons lying in the warm sun together, swatting each other's fly annoyances with their tails. Other interesting friendships have developed between Dauntless and Royale, Gallant Knight and Flashy Wings, and Mercurial Magic and Dynasty.
While we speak of Dynasty, this little lady of course has intimate knowledge of all of the SOPS breeding and racing stock, and has developed the same keen insight to all those of NDM stables the past months. Often she seems to be the peace maker, the introducer, or the match maker in some of the interesting goings on. The above case reports are not all of the events that have transpired, but rather a very tiny snippet sampling. It has been quite a wild ride these past three months, and I can safely say that everyone involved will need some adjustment time when SOPS vacates NDM. We would willingly welcome them all back another time, but for now . . . . .
FROSTY TAKE YOUR PONIES BACK!!! XD
