SILENT SNAP & AMBER BLACK - THE WIRE RED MILE
INCOGNITO & KYLIE SILVERSTAR - GALLOP TO THE GALLOWS
LIMITED EDITION & VALENCIA ANDREWS - SENIOR SUPERSTARS FINALE
Another season was winding down to a close; the war drums were beginning to boom louder as the Breeders Cup approached. Amber Black loved all parts of the racing year, but Breeders Cup season was certainly special. Horses claimed titles they had sought for all season and tossed their name firmly in the hat for Horse of the Year awards depending on their performance. For Amber, this meant that Silent Snap would have even more chances to thoroughly prove himself. Snapper had shown the typical crazy maturity of a With A Snap foal with his improvement this season. He had even stepped out of the shadows of Sun King during the Triple Sprinter Crown, winning two out of three legs. He was one win off grade one and a scary good competitor. He just grew stronger with every passing month and Amber knew he would be ready to do more than fly as he took Ventura's place next season in the senior dirt sprinting ranks. She looked forward to filling the hoofsteps of her mare.
Incognito was another horse living up to his bloodlines. He had shown the scary precociousness of a Devil's Touch foal paired with Hall of Famer True Enough's distance capabilities. The winner of six Horse Of The Year races had placed second in the first leg of the Youth Challenge and was looking towards winning the second. They had every chance; Kylie Silverstar knew both her riding ability and her colt's racing ability had been improving leaps and bounds every race. She just needed to do her job and her colt would do the rest. Her eyes glittered with bright emotion as her ghost of a colt floated down the dirt track alongside his burly chestnut stablemate. Nero was a ghost; he was a quiet colt nobody noticed until the end. Fortunately, his racing performance was giving him more than enough attention. He could be next year's top Triple Crown prospect if he continued performing well. Kylie herself had won the Turf Triple Crown this year for SOPS; maybe she would jockey a Triple Crown champion next year as well and continue accomplishing amazing things.
Limited Edition rounded out the pair and the chestnut colt clearly didn't think much of his competition. His healthy arrogance had never faded with his years on the track. He had taken seven Horse Of The Year races this season including three Senior Superstars Series preps and even the second leg of the Senior Superstars Series against the monstrous Nightshade last time out. Ed had proved himself the mare's match. Valencia was looking forward to facing down that particular competitor next time out. Her stallion was second to none and she wanted to prove it. They had journeyed together since the time she had bought him as a yearling; they both deserved greatness together.
It did not take long for the trio to begin their run. Snapper took the lead, Ed pressuring his stablemate at the shoulder and Nero shadowing the duo. It would not be a hard workout, Amber knew; her horses were in prime shape and did not need the push. She simply let Ed run as he wished and knew her other charges were doing the same. Ed put his instinctive pressure on Snapper, who fought back with the courage and determination of a true racehorse, while Nero and Kylie simply waited to pounce. The moment would never come, as the workout ended after a quick six furlong gallop, but the horses were ready to bring everything to the table for their next races and, that time, they would not be taking it easy. It was time to make the pre-Breeders Cup splashes.
