There are few, if any, who do not know the name Everyday Hero. Everyday Hero was an original horse born in the first year of GHF, and proved a formidable force with seventeen strong wins. Now, I wasn't around for those first years, but those who were know that a different system was in place back then. His record may seem great or average for a current grade one racer who is fresh on or off the track, but I'm told by those who were around that competition was a heck of a lot fiercer and wins harder to come by. Adding up all those wins-it's no wonder he was honored with an encouragement award as a young superstar and later entered into the Hall of Fame. If those accomplishments weren't enough to brag about, just wait. Everyday Hero was able to race dual surface, and 5-11 furlongs. No, that's not a typo! This guy was racing all but one furlong length available in our racing system. A huge seven furlong expanse is not heard of today, and increases this stallion's wow factor.
It took a few years off the track before Hero was settled in the breeding rosters, but once those first few foals came he was suddenly a hot item, sought after by many racing stables. As of this post, he has produced 5 grade one winners with several still racing and a few more babies going to head into racing in the next few seasons. He is also a grandpa, if you can believe it! Two grandsons, one by his first G1 foal Vindictive Fury, Great Revenge, and another out of Strictly A Hero, named Constitution.
And now we come to the reason for this article: Everyday Hero is officially retired from stud. His very last foal being lucky number thirteen, born Y16, named Superstition. I took a long while deciding on the dam for his last foal, and settled on Moondance. Everyday Hero has had a brilliant career racing, and now he is set in the next few seasons to perhaps become a BHOF stallion as well. Keep notice of his progeny, it will be a pleasure to watch them blossom over the next few years. With a salute to this champion, we will gracefully allow Hero to live out the rest of his days in comfort at NDM.
