The morning air was brisk, and the sun had not yet peaked over the track, as Aiden lead the bay cannon onto the track. The colt was prancing and snorting, ready for his morning workout. Saddling him had been a challenge, as he gave Aiden and Flora hell, as he bucked, and snorted with excitement. The thought of gelding him surged through Aiden's mind but the thought of what might come out of him as a stallion kept his urges at bay. Vesuvius was one of his most promising horses, after all. Flora now sat upon him with her reins just taunt enough to keep the colt under control, but not restricted. She sat back, her hands steady on the reins, as Aiden gave her instructions, "I want you to breeze for a half a mile, and then blow him out the last quarter." Flora nodded, and gave Aiden the signal to let them go. Vee felt the release of pressure and leaped forward in anticipation. Flora's hands quickly, and calming tightened up on the reins bringing him back down to a jog, and began jogging towards the starting point of their work. Vee jogged forward quickly, yet obediently, waiting for Flora's command.
Flora lowered herself over the saddle, and loosened the reins just a tad, queuing Vee to begin galloping. The bay colt tossed his head and galloped forward with pleasure. They crossed the three quarter pole and Flora gave him another inch, pushing him into a breeze. Underneath her, Vee's large powerful muscles rippled and he began to breeze. Now that he was running, Vee began to settle down and focus. As they swept past the quarter pole, Flora put forward her hands and started to push him faster. Vee responded immediately, switching into another gear, and began charging down the stretch. Flora watched his shadow as he gained speed, his ears forward, in content. Flora had been riding Vesuvius since they first broke him out, and knew he was a changed horse. He no longer was the immature two year old, and he now was mature enough to start racing. The flew past the wire, and Flora stood up, letting Vee slow down at his own pace.
Aiden watched from the rail, pleased with Vee's performance. He knew that Vee was now ready to race.
