A lot has been going on behind closed doors of Montgomery Acres. With a recent 200 acre expansion, the farm is now bringing racing and breeding all under one roof. We caught up with owner, Holly Montgomery, about the recent updates to the barns and to talk about her horses.
TG: Hello, Holly! How have things been going so far for Montgomery Acres?
HM: Why thanks for asking! Things have been flying high and going fast. My horses have been doing pretty good on the tracks so far, but it's only coming up to the end of the first month. Still a whole season to go.
TG: How has your breeding division been going?
HM: I have stallions and broodmares ready and settled into their new barns. This has been a long time coming since the fire that caused me to split it into two separate farms. I am highly excited about having all of my ponies under one roof.
TG: Any new additions to the breeding barn you want to talk about? I saw Glory Bell has his own stall in the breeding barn. I thought he was due to race as a 6 year old season.
HM: (pauses) Yes, I was highly anticipating his first start for the season, which was going to be in mid February. We were warming him up a few days ago and he pulled up not wanting to put any weight on his left foreleg. The vet said to rest him for a day or two and see how he does. He sustained a ligament injury and his racing career is done. Gonna rest him up for the remainder of the season and start him off to stud, as planned, for Y18.
TG: Have any strong horses in your barn?
HM: What are you talking about? All my horses are strong! (laughs) Yes, I have been impressed with my entire racing stock so far. I have an intense juvenile string this season. Lasheeva was the one who really shocked me. I brought her in as an abandoned yearling some odd months ago and she has really shined on the track. My strongest juvie was also my strongest prospect last year, in Piece Of Me. That filly is certainly gonna kick it her entire racing career. Samaritan Hero is another one who's pulled in a win, so far. He is my strongest juvie colt. May try to place him and Piper in HOTY races if they keep up the consistency.
TG: What about your three year olds? Any probable entrants for the TC or any of those type of races this season?
HM: Catastrophic is kicking butt. I would love to throw her in the TC but she will be running HOTY races real soon. I just want to build her up some more, but I really see her going into those high caliber races. Call of Duty will be my likely TC entrant. As with Tori, I'm going to build him up to higher standards. He has the heart of a champion. I really think this opportunity could open him up some more.
TG: What about your older stock?
HM: I really see Superb Curiosity getting into some higher ranked competition. She has matured over time and I;m incredibly excited to see where she goes. I love all of my horses and I'm really hoping Y17 is an awesome year for Montgomery Acres.
TG: Well, we best be on our way but, hey Holly, thanks for taking some time out of your busy schedule to sit down and talk with us. We really enjoyed and sights here on the farm. A lovely facility you have here. Thanks again.
HM: My pleasure. Be sure to come and visit anytime. The gates are always open for all. Check back again after the summer and I would love to sit down with you again. Thank you.
You heard it folks! Holly Montgomery knows Montgomery Acres is going places this season. Y17 will be their year! Be sure to watch out for them.
