Turf (Disadvantage for Emperor)
ATTENTION SEEKER
James watched over the other two trainees as they both mounted their horses, Chase was a new addition to the stables and he was interested to see what he had. James mounted Endo and walked him towards the turf track, checking behind often to make sure the others were ok. As they got to the track he noticed Chase was making a little fuss and Jamie was trying to calm him down. Chase wasn't one of Jamie's assigned horses, he was James' but they needed to train the boy up a bit. They lined up and on James' count of three they started. It was a light trot at first but then they broke into a canter. At this point they could see who like what position. It was only going to be a 9 furlong workout, but it would be good. Chase seemed to be having trouble focusing and Jaime kept waking him up when he noticed. He was running pretty hard right now but when James yelled out Gallop, Jaimie pushed him on even further. The colt seemed to not be using all of his energy and saving his final blast for the end. He tossed his head or twice as he started to even out his pace. Emperor was at a disadvantage here, he hated the turf track and therefor he caused a bit of a fuss. He ran in-between the others, as a mid-pack horse, but he started to slow over the distance as he struggled with the turf. James kept Endo to the back, knowing from his previous owners that he enjoyed running as a closer. He saw the last turn of the 9 furlongs coming up and the competition really heated up.
James pushed Endo on, making him use the rest of his energy to move to the front. As he overtook Emperor they could see the older horse trying but ultimatley was going to come last. This was now a competition between Chase and Endo. The last corner came and Endo was extremely close to each other, but James misjudged Chase’s determination. The new colt rushed after the last corner, and now he was a bit further in front. Although it wasn’t hard to see that Endo was going to give up this win so easily. Endo pushed himself harder, and so did James. The two horses were neck and neck but Chase still managed to come out on top, winning the workout race only by a few lengths. The did a small warm down trot, once they stopped Chase started to toss his head once more, seemingly pleased with himself. "You're such an attention seeker." Jamie said, leaning down to stroke the colt. "Congrats on the 'win'" James said, shaking his hand while the two were still mounted. Rachel came up with Emperor after, nodding at the pair. Endo turned his head towards Chase attempting to bite him before James pulled him back. The group then proceeded to take the horses back and give them a wash down before feeding them.
